Beauty Editor, Hearst Magazines Digital Media/Good Housekeeping

The Beauty Web Editor is responsible for writing, editing, and developing all beauty- and style-related content on GoodHousekeeping.com. The ideal candidate is hyper passionate about all things beauty (trends, tricks, expert advice!) and loves finding new fun ways to report and package service-driven and newsy stories that people share and save. An idea-filled person with fun voice and an editor’s sharp eye for smart digital packaging and organization will thrive in this role. We’re looking for someone who eats, sleeps and breathes beauty, lives on social media and is excited to expand our coverage creatively as we continue to reimagine a traditional lifestyle brand in the new digital landscape.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Pitching, writing/editing, and producing 3+ original pieces of content daily – including voice-y listicles and news briefs, slideshows, infographics, and videos – covering the following: hair care, skin care, makeup tips and trends, personal style, trends, general wellness (e.g. personal care and body image), and more
  • Commissioning and top editing freelance beauty-related service and longform features, photo-driven packages and personal essays
  • Helping to define and expand the site’s beauty POV on site and social
  • Liaising with the Good Housekeeping Magazine and Good Housekeeping Institute health and beauty editors and experts on building out print coverage
  • Ideating and executing beauty-focused photo and video shoots
  • Contributing beauty content to GH’s social media channels, including Facebook Live shoots and Instagram stories
  • Attending and covering press previews and other industry events

Desired Skills and Experience

  • At least 3-5 years experience writing and editing women's lifestyles-related content with a focus on beauty
  • Strong writing and reporting skills
  • A keen understanding of how to make beauty advice accessible-but-engaging for Good Housekeeping’s core reader (a 30- to 40-year-old women)
  • Knowledge and passion for women’s lifestyle topics and beauty trends
  • Strategic thinker willing to push the envelope and bring fresh, innovative ideas to life
  • Familiarity with Omniture, Chartbeat, Google Analytics, or similar reporting tools
  • Knowledge of SEO and best practices for optimizing content for the web
  • Experience with basic HTML, content management systems, blogging platforms, and other production tools
  • A sense of humor and a clear, creative, and snappy writing style
  • Experience producing multimedia and/or knowledge of video- and photo-editing platforms is a plus
