Art Director, Hearst Magazines Digital Media/Content Studio

Hearst Digital Media is seeking a Art Director, Branded Content Studio to steer the design of the custom content the Studio creates in partnership with advertisers to run on all of our digital properties, including Elle.com, ElleDecor.com, MarieClaire.com, CountryLiving.com, Esquire.com, GoodHousekeeping.com, and Seventeen.com.

Job Description

This position will report to the Director of the Branded Content Studio. You will work closely with the Content Studio photo/art team and editors to design digital branded content that meets or surpasses the quality of non-branded editorial. You will also work in close partnership with the Editorial, Product and UX teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Design branded content that adheres to and also furthers the visual identity of the HDM sites in a fast-paced creative environment
  • Work with Product and UX teams to design boundary-pushing, interactive, showpiece pieces of branded content
  • Concept and design stories, infograhics and motion graphics
  • Manage junior designer
  • Use available analytics to understand content performance
  • Direct creative processes and capabilities
  • Assess where HDM work stands against competitors and ensure we are ahead
  • Drive constant improvement in HDM quality and capabilities
  • Recruit and manage outside resources, including vendors and illustrators

Requirements:

  • At least 7 years as a Designer/Art Director
  • Dedication to rolling-up-your-sleeves and designing
  • Proven excellence in producing shareable, digital content
  • Understanding of what drives audience and engagement in digital media now
  • Familiarity with pop culture, fashion, trends
  • Master of current digital design tools such as Adobe CS as well as developing design technologies that push design and storytelling
  • Experience working on a publishing CMS
  • Passion for innovating
  • Must be a bridge-builder, bringing teams that have uniquely different experiences together to build great digital content
  • Strong design background and eye for composition
  • A positive and professional attitude at all times
  • A diplomatic disposition and willingness to be flexible
  • Strong time management, communication and interpersonal skills
  • BFA or equivalent in Graphic Design or related subject
