HBO VP, Data and Business Intelligence

Essential job functions

The position holder will be undertaking various tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Responsibility for analysing all viewing data to identify and cluster customer segments
  • Capturing and managing data to provide strategic direction for marketing and other commercial functions
  • Responsibility for subscriber reports and the gathering of data in the most effective and efficient way
  • Responsibility for keeping the Company informed about market trends, new relevant findings in data, subscriber figures etc.
  • Organising HBO Europe's data assets to maximise their value to our commercial partners
  • Building internal data collection capabilities
  • Responsible for building predictive and content recommendation engines
  • Collaborating with other departments within HBO Europe, HBO Domestic, and Time Warner and its divisions (Turner, Warner Bros.) to leverage the global scale, brands and data to drive ever more effective business intelligence
  • Ensuring HBO is at the forefront of driving and adopting new techniques and approaches to primary and secondary research through innovation and creativity
  • Overseeing budget for the data insights, research and BI projects

Person Specification

  • An experienced data expert, with a track record of building and working with large data sets
  • Experience in, and ability to integrate multiple sources and types of data into a data management framework, enabling the business to derive key consumer insights
  • Understanding and awareness of key trends and issues in the major media markets in Europe and of new media ventures and technology trends globally
  • Understanding of digital research tools and methodologies across owned and operated platforms (e.g. Omniture for web/apps) and third party platforms (e.g. Google Analytics, social monitoring tools)
  • Highly strategic and commercial
  • Highly energetic and experience of working within a fast-paced commercial environment
  • Inquisitive, insightful and analytical mind with the ability to decipher the implications of the major developments in the media world and identify the growth opportunities for HBO Europe
  • Comfortable dealing with senior management and senior industry stakeholders and has excellent relationship building skills
  • First rate communication skills, ability to summarise accurately and concisely
  • Knowledge of commissioning and managing primary qualitative and quantitative research projects on a multi-market (pan-EMEA) basis
  • In additional to fluent English, knowledge of other European languages is preferred
  • Educated to degree level or relevant equivalent
  • The role will require European travel and occasionally travel outside Europe
