HBO 2017 Spring Intern: MTIS - Information Security


Provide support in general technical – IT Security oriented activities including network scanning reviews, firewall rules validation, incident response tasks and other cybersecurity monitoring activities. The intern will see how a cybersecurity operations facility works and gain hands-on experience in real IT Security tasks, monitoring and forensic process.

Must be available to work 15 hours/week in New York City.

Must be a current junior or senior in college.


  • Work alongside HBO’s IT Security personnel and engage in operational activities, monitoring, validation and forensics.
  • Document key controls.
  • Provide support to the phishing detection, firewall change requests and alerts.


  • Cybersecurity fundamentals – network scanning, penetration test high level understanding.
  • Familiarization at an administrator level with Red Hat Linux and Windows Servers.
  • Knowledge of cloud operations and security features of AWS.
  • Understanding of any major firewall type process and rule handling.


  • Desire to learn and become a cybersecurity expert.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and negotiate alternative technical and business oriented alternatives to non technical users.
  • Desire to understand media and broadcasting operations.
