We are a collaborative team of about 100 people across marketing, ops, customer support, product, data, finance and engineering, and our headquarters is located in the heart of New York City in the Flatiron District.

About the role

Handy is looking for a Junior Accountant to carry out the responsibilities of the Finance / Accounting Department. This position reports directly to the Director of Accounting / Controller. We're a startup, so we're looking for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit, enthusiasm for our mission to transform home services, and of course, the ability to turn on a dime when necessary.

Primary duties:

  • Invoice Management:
  • Reconcile vendor statements; research and correct discrepancies
  • Record invoices into accounts payable software and/or accounting system
  • File invoices, contracts and approvals accurately
  • Monitor accounts payable aging to ensure payments are up to date
  • Process 1099-MISC and 1099-K forms annually
  • Review and route finance department mail
  • Cash Management and Payment Processing:
  • Provide updated cash forecasts to Controller on a weekly basis
  • Manage cash balance to forecast by prioritizing invoice payments according to payment terms
  • Process outbound checks, ACH and wire payments
  • Manage employee expense submission and reimbursement process
  • Process claims and other ad hoc payments on a weekly basis
  • Month End Close:
  • Reconcile bank accounts and investigate any unusual reconciling items
  • Reconcile corporate credit card statement and ensure all corporate credit card charges are appropriately classified by department
  • Create, enter and distribute partner invoices for jobs completed during month
  • Record and reconcile various accrual accounts
  • Contribute to accounting team's continuous process improvement and always consider ways to make our jobs more efficient

Here are some details about what is required:
  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting (or related) field from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum one year of experience in accounts payable and/or accountant position
  • Exceptional knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Intermediate MS Excel skills
  • Highly skilled in dealing with confidential financial information
  • No tolerance for financial sloppiness
  • Experience with Netsuite and Expensify a major plus, but not required
