Manager, Billing Management

The Manager of the  Billing Management department will oversee multiple initiatives in support of improving efficiency of the billing process across Hachette Book Group. This individual will coordinate with multiple Fulfillment, IT, Finance, Sales, and Operations constituents and leadership teams ensuring accountability and presentation of analytics data and billing processes in the realm of Fulfillment management. They will identify trends, opportunities, critical decisions, recommendations, and influences to maximize efficiency and solution delivery.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Drives billing operational excellence and analysis process by establishing standard processes and procedures including effective processes to drive billing capitalization
  • Manage the digital billing process from SalesScan to AR reconciliation while monitoring detailed summary reports, variance analysis and exception reports   
  • Manage and oversee the entire discount process from queries to setup including testing and validation and provide functional direction and clarification to the Fulfillment teams
  • Partners with Finance, IT, and other operations groups to drive billing opportunities by analyzing results; monitoring variances; identifying trends; recommending actions to management
  • Implement effective analytical and presentation tools to interpret metrics data and provide meaningful analysis with action oriented recommendations
  • Engages on other strategic initiatives in the areas of efficiency, accuracy, and simplification
  • Document, track, and resolve complex inquiries and investigations via internal tracking systems while keeping management informed on progress
  • Support internal business groups and client business groups with ad hoc queries and requests



  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Math, Finance, or IT with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience OR in lieu of specific degree, Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience with data analytics and process management
  • Demonstrated proficiency to identify trends and make internal recommendations
  • Strong analytical/quantitative and problem solving skills combined with exceptional business acumen
  • Possesses business process analysis skills and re-engineering experience with a proven ability to deliver timely, accurate work product, and follow through on deliverables
  • Organizational skills – ability to multi-task, prioritize, and execute on deliverables
  • Strong understanding of MS Office Suite, particularly Excel, are essential
  • Must be results driven, and take appropriate steps to achieve goals, while taking ownership of situations as needed while possessing flexibility and grace under pressure
  • Drives changes and innovation by improving work product or process, and challenges established norms where appropriate
  • Proven ability to build supportive and constructive relationships within and outside of the organization; takes the lead in inspiring others to work together for mutual benefit
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the aptitude to communicate effectively in both individual and group settings, regardless of audience
