Manager, Business Operations/Billing Management

This position manages one of the ten teams that comprise the Fulfillment/Operations division at Hachette Book Group. The Manager of this group will lead multiple initiatives and process improvements across its various business processes.  This individual will be required to collaborate with multiple areas of the company including IT, Finance, Sales, Operations, and senior leadership.  They will be accountable for managing procedural work flows, providing performance analytics, making critical decisions, recommending small and large scale changes, and presenting ad-hoc operational and analytical summaries.  They will also be encouraged to identify trends, recognize opportunities, voice recommendations, and design pragmatic solutions that can be applied in their group and across the organization.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Drive operational excellence by establishing standard processes and procedures
  • Manage the digital billing process from SalesScan to AR reconciliation while monitoring detailed summary reports, variance analysis and exception reports  
  • Manage and oversee the entire billing and discount process from queries to setup including testing and validation
  • Partners with Finance, IT, and other operations groups to drive departmental opportunities by analyzing results; monitoring variances; identifying trends; recommending actions to management
  • Create metrics and provide meaningful analysis with action oriented recommendations
  • Engage with strategic initiatives in the areas of efficiency, accuracy, and simplification
  • Document, track, and resolve complex inquiries and investigations via internal tracking systems while keeping management informed of progress
  • Support internal business groups and client business groups with ad hoc queries and requests

Qualifications/Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree with 1+ years of relevant experience related to data analytics and/or process management
  • Demonstrated proficiency to identify issues and opportunities and make internal recommendations
  • Strong analytical/quantitative and problem solving skills combined with sound business acumen
  • Possesses business process analysis skills with a proven ability to deliver timely, accurate work product, and follow through on deliverables
  • Strong understanding of MS Office Suite, particularly Excel, are essential
  • Must be results driven, and take appropriate steps to achieve goals, while taking ownership of situations as needed while possessing flexibility and grace under pressure
  • Willingness to execute against planned strategies with an openness to challenge established norms where appropriate
  • Proven ability to build supportive and constructive relationships within and outside of the organization; takes the lead in inspiring others to work together for mutual benefit
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the aptitude to communicate effectively in both individual and group settings, regardless of audience
