Senior Payroll Manager - Foster City, CA

Guidewire is seeking a Sr. Payroll Manager to ensure accurate, timely payments are delivered to approximately 1,600 US and Canada employees, co-ordinate with international locations and ensure compliance with global mobility policy and procedures related to domestic and international employees.  The Sr. Payroll Manager must be able to collaborate in a cross functional team environment and effectively communicate with all levels of the organization as well as external vendors and auditors.  This is a great opportunity for someone with a high level of detail and strong organization skills, looking to manage a team of 4 employees in Foster City/San Mateo. 

Responsibilities

  • Perform payroll analysis as required. Oversee and participate in pre & post payroll auditing/reconciliations for semi-monthly payroll utilizing ADP Workforce Now for 1,500 US employees; 100 Canadian employees
  • Manage payroll processes unique to internationally/domestically sourced mobile employees including review all income, regular wages, bonuses, commissions, equity transactions, etc., for tax and sourced income for mobile employees to ensure appropriate tax jurisdictions are applied
  • Manage monthly international payroll utilizing 3rd party vendors and ensure payroll providers are delivering on service agreements
  • Lead, recommend and participate in projects to continually review and improve current processes (ie system upgrades/implementations and streamline processes)
  • Ensure payroll process are compliant with established SOX controls
  • Create and maintain strong relationships with cross functional teams including Accounting, HR, HRIS, Benefits, Tax, Stock, and Global Mobility departments
  • Stay abreast to global and local payroll regulations, standards, and taxes
  • Work well with internal teams to provide support for 401K audits, workers compensation audits, and annual audits
  • Responsible for payroll records retention and file maintenance
  • Mentor and coach the US payroll team to create a cohesive US based team with international business partners
  • Provide employees and stakeholders with excellent customer service while adhering to company policies

 

Requirements

  • 10+ years of payroll experience in a multi-state and international environment
  • Strong knowledge of payroll processes and managing tax implications for mobile workforce with a good understanding of international, federal, state, & local tax regulations
  • Proficient in MS Office with strong excel skills (pivots, V-lookups and other functions within Excel)
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now and Workday preferred
  • Experience with internal SOX documentation and compliance, including the understanding of internal controls, financial reporting requirements, and testing processes and procedures
  • Attention to detail with strong work ethic and disciplined approach
  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Must have demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Certified Payroll Profession (CPP) preferred
