Job Purpose:
- The GSK Consumer Healthcare R&D team supports the development of leading global brands in Consumer Health care. Analytical sciences is a specialized discipline providing support to new product development, by developing, validating and transferring state-of-the-art robust methods that enable the growth of the Consumer Health Business.
- This role is to execute technical strategies in analytical chemistry, within region or category, which is focused on the delivery of innovation, may lead moderately complex problem solving, troubleshoot and solve analytical methodology issues in the GSK network. This role is familiar with HPLC and GC and well established detection technology. This role displays continuing growth of knowledge of analytical chemistry. The role requires close collaboration with new product development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Proven, proactive, positive and engaged technical subject matter expert who leads technical aspects of R&D analytical development for driving innovation of Local Star Brand (ex. Caltrate, Fenbid, Bactroban, Contac, ENO etc.) and supporting the localization of Power Brand (ex. Centrum, Voltaren) in Asia Pacific region.
- Acts as analytical lead of NPD projects which cover different categories (ex. Pain Relief, Respiratory, Wellness etc.) and develops fit-for-purpose analytical strategies as per regulatory pathway variety (ex. OTC, notification health food and functional health food etc.) and regulations in different APAC countries.
- Performs job responsibilities in compliance with cGMP and all other regulatory agency requirements, where applicable.
- Lead analytical lab management (ex. EHS, equipment, reference standards etc.) and act as the interface of internal/external audit.
- A scientific and technical leader that interfaces with internal and external partners such as Formulations, Quality & Supply Chain, third party testing facilities & manufacturing sites along with the regional and category businesses.
- Successfully directs and performs method development for various finished dosage forms such like Tablet, Granlules, Liquids, Softgel and ointment etc.
- Establishes and monitors developmental stability programs to assess viability of dosage forms.
- Performs data collection and analyses conclusions regarding progress of work, and effectively communicates information in the form of discussions and reports.
- Applies technical and functional knowledge to design experiments, assist in project design, and independently completes tasks.
- Advanced knowledge level in principles, concepts and practices of separation sciences and general analytical chemistry with sound knowledge of principles, concepts and practices of other relevant disciplines.
- Solves complex problems using multiple problem-solving tools and techniques; using appropriate resources, personal knowledge and experience with whatever data are available given the situation.
- Creates innovative methodologies and develops of novel approaches to solve difficult problems.
- Leads or participates in due diligence, new business opportunities and product assessments as required.
- Provides strong technical guidance and assists in training junior level staff and guides the work of others within the analytical team.
- Serves as an area representative, or leads local project teams, technology transfer teams, task forces or committees as required
- Produces effective presentations and possesses writing skills to tailor messages to a variety of audiences as appropriate (e.g. external, commercial, management, scientific).
Knowledge/ Education / Previous Experience Required:
- Ph.D. Analytical Chemistry with a minimum of 7 years of experience in analytical chemistry; or MS Chemistry with a minimum of 9 years of experience in analytical chemistry; or BS Chemistry with a minimum of 12 years of experience in analytical chemistry
- Some experience (+7 years, depending on education) in the area of analytical sciences in the Rx, OTC or consumer products industry
- Proven ability to assist in developing scientifically sound and robust methods of analysis to be used for release and stability testing and complex problem solving
- Good communication and influencing skills in a complex, matrix environment
- Knowledge of cGMP requirements related to analytical chemistry within product development.
- Ability to communicate problems / challenges and solutions in a clear and concise manner
- The candidate must demonstrate strong organizational ability, comfort with complexity and ambiguity and an ability to lead within a strong matrix organization. A passion for science will be essential given the critical importance of technical expertise for the success of the organization.
