The Reliability Engineer will provide technical and organizational support and leadership to the Maintenance Department in order to optimize maintenance activities, as well as implement systems and best practices. Manage the spare parts process and work closely with EHS, Engineering, Maintenance, and Facilities to ensure proactive measures are being taken to ensure continuous improvement and improved reliability in systems and equipment.

  • Provide reliability engineering for maintenance and facilities by collecting and analyzing equipment performance data, develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs / reliability centered maintenance program / run to failure.
  • Implement Maintenance Excellence initiatives as recommended by GSKBIO Global Technical Services to harmonize maintenance systems across the division. Act as the site key contact for Maintenance Excellence initiatives. Communicate site maintenance best practices transversally and cross-culturally.
  • Gather data on equipment/facility problems and document results in reports to identify the cause of the problem as well as implement the necessary corrective actions. Utilize SAP to track system/equipment performance.
  • Develop and implement continuous improvement systems for maintenance and facilities, targeting asset maintenance cost. Utilize reliability processes like FMECA's to ensure robust maintenance programs.
  • Prepare technical documentation that identifies the need for, cost evaluation of, specifications for, activation of, functional and safety analyses of, maintenance of and operator training for the specific set of assigned equipment or requirements for new equipment assigned to the group.
  • Support/lead department risk management meetings.
  • Manage the spare parts process at the Marietta Site.
  • Responsible for evaluating and predicting process/systems performance to achieve the greatest asset utilization at the lowest total cost in support of value creation initiatives.
  • Prepare for and lead site Maintenance excellence meetings. Communicate Maintenance Excellence status to global engineering and participate in subject matter expert community of practice meetings.
  • Act as primary interface for site/strategic projects to ensure end users' needs are delivered. Ensure seamless capital project turnover to technical services end users. Execute "small modification requests" as applicable to job scope. Provide back-up support for Maintenance and Facility Supervisors in their absence.
  • Direct impact on quality and reliability of site manufacturing operations including BL3 classifications.
  • Direct impact in standardization of delivered equipment by designing and maintaining specifications.
  • Influence Users to keep equipment in a standard design and use.
  • Influence senior management in decision making
  • Process expertise including the following: Biological containment, Lyophilization, isolator vial lines, sterilization, packaging, refrigerated storage, and automated building systems, process utilities and associated process automation systems. Sufficient technical experience required keeping leadership staff and external contractors to maintain critical environments and equipment for highly regulated business.
  • Must operate and lead cross-functionally and cross-culturally in a matrix organization.
  • Technical problem can require direct corrective action but often need to be solved through very complex matrix organization.

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
  • B.S. in Engineering discipline.
  • Prior experience in pharmaceutical industry (5 years minimum).
  • Experience utilizing lean and 6-sigma tools, such as DMAIC, 5 whys, FMECA, cause & effect diagrams; 6-Sigma black belt preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:
If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
  • Knowledgeable of cGMPs for area classification and environmental requirements for aseptic manufacturing facilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, ability to function in an atmosphere of constant change with detailed accuracy.
  • Experience utilizing lean and 6-sigma tools, such as DMAIC, 5 whys, FMECA, cause & effect diagrams; 6-Sigma black belt preferred.
  • Experience with preventative and predictive maintenance techniques and programs
  • Process equipment, process instrumentation and control loop, high & low voltage electrical, rotating equipment, and HVAC knowledge.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to quickly and easily learn new applications.
  • Stay current on developments in the field and GSK-Bio Standards.
  • The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to all levels within the organization as well as the skills to communicate site operations to outside agencies.
  • Sense of urgency, flexibility and accountability.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices and NIH guideline for large scale recombinant biological processing.
  • Ability to work in a high complex matrix environment.
  • Must be able to provide leadership to generate options, resolve problems, prioritize solutions, select optimal solutions and implement decisions.
  • Must be a committed team player prepared to work in and embrace a team based culture.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and document results in a neat and precise manner.

  • Able to interact with peers, subordinate and senior personnel in multidisciplinary environment and the ability to work in a high complex matrix environment.
  • Capable of working without direct supervision.
