The Manager Public Affairs is accountable to establish and maintain constructive collaboration between GSK and (non-conventional) external key stakeholders in Belgium and Luxembourg in order to enhance GSK's visibility and reputation, in line with strategic GSK BELUX business priorities.
Within the Market Access and Public Affairs department, this role is accountable for the development of strategic public affairs (PA) in alignment with the strategic Corporate and commercial priorities in BELUX.
Furthermore, this also involves support and advise to departments on how to engage with external stakeholders in order to guarantee impact in the external environment in line with GSK business goals.

This role will work in close collaboration with the Director Market Access and Public Affairs with limited PA support from selected external agencies.

key responsibilities:

Understanding of the health care environment:

  • You monitor and understand the environment in terms of structures, legislation, processes, upcoming changes relevant for GSK;
  • You analyze obtained health care environment information and evaluate the opportunities and risks for GSK. Identify key market environmental, policy and political trends important for internal and external customers. Propose and execute measures for their prevention or management with the goal of maximizing GSK product value;
  • You communicate relevant information and its estimated business impact to the appropriate GSK functions, brand teams and the Belgian Public Affairs Office.
Health policy development and positioning :
  • You identify, review, interpret and evaluate environmental trends;
  • You Propose and develop, evaluate and support GSK positions in order to provide input to environmental as well as health policy developments. Develop and contribute to strategic PA and communication activities in line with Corporate and integrated business plans.
Engagement with policymakers
  • You develop partnerships and maintain regular contacts with policy makers and their influencers in order to understand their particular needs, policies and processes;
  • You represent GSK in trade associations and industry platforms, where relevant, and contribute to their advocacy work;
  • You identify mutual interests and establish the dialogue focused on relevant policy agenda items and monitor policy makers, legislative environment and debated changes and act proactively at relevant levels;
  • You advise on and develop advocacy plans for GSK on priority policy issues in collaboration with BELUX multifunctional teams as well as the development of deliverables (e.g. position papers).
Stakeholder management

Belgian Public Affairs Office
  • You support development and implementation of external communication strategy in line with local and Global policy and aligned with LOC (public affairs) activities including;
  • You coordinate briefing and advise of Market Access and Public Affairs Director, General Manager and other members of the Belgian Public Affairs Office on Public Affairs themes related to LOC activities ( Access, Budget, legislation, etc ...)
You support, where relevant of internal and external communication around issues and crises situations. This in close collaboration with relevant functions depending on the specific LOC issue or situation

  • University degree in Business management, public relation or similar in experience
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry or in public affairs
  • Demonstrated ability to foster relationships within senior stakeholders and build trust and support for significant environmental impact
  • A good knowledge and understanding of the Healthcare environment, policies and stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, presentations and relationship skills to drive business performance.
  • Business acumen and demonstrated ability to think strategically, quickly appreciate the differing perspectives in a given situation and achieve a win-win outcome
