GSK Oncology has a commitment to the discovery and development of new oncology therapies with the life-changing potential of helping patients with cancer, specifically in four areas of cancer research: Cancer Epigenetics, Immuno-Oncology, Oncology Cell & Gene Therapy and Synthetic Lethality.

Positions Available

GSK Canada is building our Pipeline MSL team who will be initially responsible for immuno-oncology and cell therapy pipeline assets. The MSL will identify and develop deep relationships with the top medical experts and community physicians in their responsible region, gather insights, review pipeline with HCPs, identify Investigators and sites for clinical trial participation, support recruitment for clinical trials, attend relevant congresses, organize advisory boards, train and coach other MSLs in the execution of field medical responsibilities. Aligned to the regulatory and corporate guidelines, the Oncology MSL will ensure execution of activities in support of the functional and departmental program strategy. We'll rely on you to leverage your own strategic skills, knowledge of the oncology therapeutic area and understanding of GSK priorities/Canadian Healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish professional relationships with academic health care professionals, professional associations and other key stakeholders to reactively provide a fair and balanced scientific exchange of medical information, modeling the highest standards of medical integrity and governance
  • Support of clinical research programs across the continuum (investigator sponsored research, collaborator research, GSK-sponsored trials)
  • Creation of regional programs and opportunities aligned with the Oncology Medical pipeline strategy
  • Management of all medical affairs activities in territory
  • Identification and support of relevant study centers and cooperation partners and intensification of scientific dialogues (for example, discussion of latest publications, data and therapies; scientific presentation and moderation of advisory boards/symposiums)
  • Collaborate with external experts in discussion of novel therapeutic approaches and development strategies
  • Responsible to gather feedback on development strategies and trial designs to cover a portfolio of multiple novel assets in the GSK development pipeline
  • Partner with Government Affairs and Market Access to understand and advocate for Canada-specific aspects within clinical development programs
  • Partner within all areas of Global Medical Affairs (e.g. Medical Directors, Medical Communications, Medical Information) and provide Medical leadership as content expert for Clinical Research, Sales, Marketing, Market Access, Advocacy, Communications

Given the complexities of the oncology landscape and urgent need for treatment to reach patients, you should be able to demonstrate following:

  • Flexibility and agility to work across multiple products, mechanisms of action and tumor types aligned to our pipeline portfolio
  • Develop and execute strategies that contribute to external scientific exchange and engagement without significant oversight and at a rapid pace
  • Work within matrix teams and have a strong ability to influence and align the team and strategy to seize the opportunities identified with external organizations
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and presentation skills
  • Identify, consolidate and communicate key insights and subsequently contribute to the translation of these insights into executable and innovative Medical Affairs strategies and plans that clearly define the value of our medicines / products to our HCPs
  • Identify and engage the external community appropriately in robust scientific dialogue thatgenerates insight and advances scientific and medical understanding as well as secure advice to inform the development of products of value, for the benefit of patients/HCPs
  • Anticipate the changing healthcare, regulatory & competitive environment throughout the product lifespan; delivers innovative strategies to inform evidence-based prescribing/ usage within this environment
  • Understand the impact of new data on the value/positioning of products in guidelines/formularies.

Basic Qualifications

We are looking for professionals with theserequired skillsto achieve our goals:
  • Advanced post-graduate scientific degree required (e.g. MD, PhD, PharmD)
  • Prior experience and success in Medical Affairs or MSL roles from within the Oncology therapy area
  • Scientific understanding of immuno-oncology, cancer epigenetics and/or cell-based therapies
  • Strong ability to apply and leverage scientific and medical knowledge while demonstrating scientific credibility
  • Demonstrated ability to confidently interact with external experts / key-opinion leaders
  • Understanding of the Canadian healthcare environment, including knowledge of health technology assessments and market access challenges
  • Understanding of pharmaceutical ethics and governance, of pharmaceutical compliance policies and procedures
  • Team orientation and the ability to work closely with cross-functional partners
  • Demonstrated ability to confidently interact with external experts
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills
  • Self-starter and innovator
  • Ability to work independently and travel throughout the defined geographic territory (70% in field)
  • Preference for GTA-based candidates
  • Valid driver license
This position requires the employee to drive routinely on Company business and allows for the provision of a company - leased vehicle. However, to be eligible for this position and a company vehicle, GSK will need to obtain acceptable results from a license verification inquiry and drivers abstract review against its safe driver program requirements
