GSK Vaccines is currently investing more than £200M of Capital Investment at the Wavre site, in Belgium, increasing and upgrading its Lyophilisation (Lyo) capacity. This multi-year project is a high-value, high-profile piece of the current CAPEX plan and will be a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at the cutting edge of Vaccines technology. This investment is pivotal to the Supply Chain strategy of GSK Vaccines for decades to come. We need a true leader who can set-up the project organization and oversee the project from conceptual engineering right through to hand-over and close-out, ensuring successful delivery of the upgrade while maintaining effective management of costs, schedule, quality, safety, and environment.

Due to the scale, value and importance of the Lyo project, this is an extremely visible and high-impact role. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop a fantastic network and reputation with GSK, as well as honing their skills in project and people management. You'll be responsible for the 'jewel in the crown' of Vaccines CAPEX, personally contributing to GSK's capacity to make life-saving vaccines.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Project managing the safe and successful delivery of the Lyo Program Investment for Belgium (approximately 200M £) ensuring maintenance of Quality, EHS and other key standards
  • Leading project cost estimation, cost control and forecasting, in partnership with the central support experts that establish the tools & standard ways of working
  • Building a clearly defined business case for the project, then developing subsequent project methodology, lifecycle plan, governance and more
  • Working with technical SME's to develop the scope and strategy of the project, followed by the key stage gate and review points to measure success
  • Building internal and external partnerships to create a project team
  • To with customers & PMO to ensure visibility & integration of resource needs in advance
  • Driving the Project Execution Plan process, documenting the project delivery strategy and the success criteria according to the PMF Standard
  • Keeping the Steering Group and Sponsors informed of critical issues that could jeopardize success
  • Developing a risk management strategy for the project, implementing associated processes and tools to ensure effective identification, monitoring and management of project risk
  • Leading the selection, qualification and subsequent strategic direction of engineering services providers, contactors, and vendors
About You:
Managing a critical and large-scale project like this will require someone with exceptional organizational skills and the ability to confidently prioritise, strategize and multi-task. You'll need the sound judgement and decision-making skills to solve problems and form plans despite potential ambiguity and a lack of precedents. We do need a leader for this role - someone who can engage others successfully and help motivate and drive results. You will be heading up a multi-year program in partnership with a range of internal and external resources from global backgrounds, so you must also value diversity and take an inclusive and capability-first approach to team building and talent management. This role will also benefit from someone who takes a longer-term view; anticipating and preparing for future possibilities and considering these eventualities when solving complex expected, and unexpected, problems.

Why You?
Required Qualifications and experience:
  • Degree level qualification in a relevant engineering discipline (Mechanical, Automation, Electrical or Chemical)
  • Proven experience of CAPEX project delivery (12 years) as a Project or Program Manager
  • Experience in Change Management
  • Experience in the Pharma and/or Vaccines sector
  • Formal management experience
  • Broad knowledge of project management and technologies processes
  • Fluency in both French and English is essential
Preferred Qualifications and experience:
  • Masters level qualification in a relevant Engineering discipline
  • Knowledge of GSK processes, standards and systems is a plus
  • Project management training/certification (eg. PMI)
  • Prior experience with Lyophilization equipment facilities is a plus
  • Project management experience on a global scale
