Sr. Database Engineer

Job Summary:

As a member of the BI and Database team, this individual will provide technical leadership for data services. They will develop, support and document best practice data management processes for local and hosted environments. They will work as part of the Information Services department, externally with enterprise application vendors and with clients throughout the firm as business owners, analysts and users to help translate business requirements into technical solutions. They will have expertise in data management as well as be responsible for their own technical professional development. The ability to support the business strategy while providing best practice database solutions is key for this role.

  1. Responsible for daily, monthly, yearly data management tasks, including installing, upgrading, migrating, consolidating, maintaining, trouble-shooting, performance monitoring, securing, developing architecture/processes, integrating solutions and documenting of SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS). Administer and provide technical leadership in support of the firm's databases or BI enterprise applications and tools. Tableau environment and 3rd party tools will be managed and used as needed for support of BI operations and services.

  2. This individual will project manage database system implementations/upgrades, and provide technical database support for other projects: vendor selection process, business processes analysis and support.

  3. Develop, document and maintain key data integration processes in support of projects and ongoing services. Provide data integration services in support of local and hosted environments for enterprise applications, including the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW).

  4. Work as technical liaison between vendors and business to help translate business requirements into technical solutions. This individual will be a direct contact and resource for data projects and provide technical leadership/consulting services as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  1. Proven track-record administering, developing and supporting SQL Server databases, including experience with related technologies: High Availability (AAG, Clustering), Performance Monitoring, Data Integration Process Deployment and System Optimization.

  2. Expertise in Microsoft data development tools (SSMS, SSIS, SSRS, Visual Studio)

and languages (T-SQL, XML, PowerShell).

  1. Data visualization or data analysis skills required (Tableau experience preferred).

  2. Strong knowledge of project management methodologies.

  3. Excellent organizational, teamwork, customer service and problem-solving skills required.

  4. Understanding of Agile software development process.

  5. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.RequirementsEDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/JOB EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • BS in Computer Science or related field is preferred.
  • 5 or more years of experience as Database Administrator or Developer.
  • Technical expertise regarding the use of data models, database design and architecture techniques.
