Pricing Analyst


The Pricing Operations Analyst will be a key team member of the Pricing Operations Team responsible for supporting the Pricing Operations Manager in his/her (i) assessment of the performance of alternative fee arrangements through the use of the firms budgeting tool and financial systems, (ii) analysis of competitive rate intelligence, (iii) role in setting annual firm rates and updating annual special billing arrangements, (iv) analyzing write-downs and write-offs, (v) response to relevant sections of RFPs, (v) assessment of Outside Counsel Guidelines, and (vi) such other and similar duties as may be requested by the members of the PPM team.

The Pricing Operations Analyst may also perform financial analysis and modeling for the Pricing and Project Management Managers to help the firm develop effective alternative fee arrangements and assess the financial impact of specific pricing proposals. The Pricing Operations Analyst will also help manage the firm's portfolio of budgets, and provide reports and tools to the PPM Managers to ensure effective project management.


  1. Develop models to assess the financial impact and profitability of pricing proposals, and assist the PPM Managers in the development of creative, workable budgets and pricing solutions in response to client pricing demands, including alternative fee arrangements.

  2. Maintaining precedent, including locating sample budgets and other relevant matter experience, and data mining historical matters.

  3. Performing data analysis and research on historical matters to determine cost ranges; assist in developing and maintaining pricing databases and pre-populated budget templates to improve the firm's ability to develop accurate budgets.

  4. Manage the portfolio of budgets.

  5. Gather financial data needed to respond to client RFPs and assist members of the PPM team with drafting financial aspects of responses for RFP submissions.

  6. Analyze budget and phase/task data, including complex analysis using data warehouses on an as-needed basis to help evaluate and analyze effectiveness of budgets and alternative fee arrangements for Members of PPM team.

  7. Monitor compliance with firm budgeting policies, including identifying budgets not submitted in accordance with the firm's budget policy.

  8. Work with other members of the Pricing & Project Management Team to coordinate budget after-action reviews to gather key metrics to help improve future budgeting and matter management.

  9. Tracking and analyzing reasons for billing write-downs and write-offs.

  10. Review outside counsel guidelines.

  11. Coordinate response to annual rate surveys in which the firm participates and in response to PPM inquiries around rates of peer firms, particularly with respect to annual rate increases.

  12. Maintain client and matter level rate information/rate matrix in an easily accessible database and format and provide analysis of such as requested by Pricing Operations and PPM Team.

  13. Stay informed of current pricing and rate trends within the legal market, and apply learned concepts to help improve the firm's pricing capabilities.

  1. Strong analytical skills, including the ability to prepare concise financial reports to assist firm management in assessing the effectiveness and financial impact of pricing proposals.

  2. Ability to apply mathematical and basic statistical concepts, including fractions, percentages, and ratios, to large volumes of data to reach meaningful conclusions.

  3. Superior organizational skills, including the ability maintain and track large volumes of data, prioritize workload, coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and ability to be flexible and adapt to change.

  4. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to interact effectively at all levels. Exceptional oral communication skills and ability to work independently and be proactive.

  5. High level of attention to detail – ensures the integrity/accuracy of the data.

  6. Strong technical skills, including a high level of proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to learn, leverage and use additional programs, including budgeting and financial management software. Working knowledge of legal services financial and billing systems preferred.

  7. Ability to protect and maintain confidential and sensitive information.
