The business architect works cross-functionally with business functions, product, technology, and external vendors to define solutions that solve strategic business needs or define business innovations.

This position is part of the enterprise architecture team. The business architect is responsible for working with potential partners to identify features and functionality provided by the partner platform and rating the viability and scalability of their technology stack. The business architect also collaborates with the technical architects and the development teams to synthesize and document the initial solution and sizing estimates. The resource and cost sizing are used as data points for the development of the business case.


Other specific responsibilities include:

Develop flow diagrams that show the features and functionality of vendor platformsCreate business architecture models that illustrate how products, operations and systems interoperate within the organizationConduct analyses to determine options and recommendations for solving business problems/opportunities that may include process improvement, systems enhancement, user training, and/or software procurementRemain engaged and support product development teams with the deployment of initial or prototype new products.Ensure that solutions are aligned to enterprise architecture standards and principles, leverage common solutions and services, and meet financial targets (cost and benefits)Review project documentation as requested to ensure it meets standards, is horizontally integrated, and fulfills the processing strategy of the organizationEvaluate project impacts and escalate issues and risk appropriatelyProvide overall direction, guidance and definition of business architecture to effectively support business strategyApply and utilize business modeling methods to ensure results oriented deliverables in a way that can be recreated and used as a corporate knowledge resource for future initiativesAct as a subject matter expert in the development of business architecture framework and tool suite selectionPartner within enterprise architecture team in developing and maintaining a technical architecture framework that aligns with the business planMap the strategic goals to metrics that provide ongoing evaluation of how successfully the organization is achieving its goalsDevelop a broad and deep understanding of all company products, services and markets

Job Requirements

The business architect role requires an individual with extensive experience in financial services, specifically consumer lending, and technology plus strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Deep understanding of global business functions including credit/risk, finance, compliance, payment processing, operations, marketing, and omni-channel customer servicing
  • Ability to understand key strategic business drivers and use that understanding to design business solutions
  • Ability to engage with new verticals including external customers or vendors and quickly model their business processes and target solutions
  • Ability to network with internal and external stakeholders in order to discover the required information and synthesize target solutions
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to create architectural artifacts to describe the target solution and process flows
  • Wide technical understanding including development methodology, technical architecture principles, technology infrastructure and information security
