We are looking for an Associate level lawyer to join the equities legal team which supports the EMEA equities sales and trading teams within the Securities Division of Goldman Sachs.

The equities legal team covers a full spectrum of products associated with cash equities. The team advises on the structuring and execution of transactions, market structure matters, helps the firm navigate legal and regulatory change and advises on all aspects of legal and reputational risk. We work with a broad range of stakeholders, including the business, compliance, internal audit and operations.

Specific responsibilities include the following:

  • Advising on long position reporting queries under the Amended Transparency Directive, and net short position reporting under the Short Selling Regulation
  • Advising on and negotiating terms of business, brokerage agreements and authorised participant agreements for ETF trading
  • Advising on market infrastructure matters, including electronic trading issues, access to new markets and settlement, clearing and custody arrangements
  • Advising on the Market Abuse Regulation, including investment recommendations, inside information and share buy-back requirements
  • Advising on the application of regulatory requirements relating to outsourcing, operational resilience and recovery and resolution to the firm's inter-affiliate arrangements
  • Monitoring and advising on regulatory developments impacting the coverage business areas including sustainability initiatives, EU licensing developments and the MiFID II review

  • Strong educational background, including a legal degree or equivalent
  • 2/3 years post qualification experience, with experience of advising on regulatory and transactional matters preferable
  • Familiarity with the application of European regulations, including MiFID II, the Market Abuse Regulation, the Short Selling Regulation and the Transparency Directive, to a full-services investment firm
  • Excellent negotiation skills and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to prioritise work effectively and to respond to client demands in a timely manner
  • Ability to work both autonomously and in collaboration with a legal large team spanning London, Bengaluru and other global locations
  • Personable and confident with ability to interact well directly with the business team, as well as compliance, operations and other colleagues both locally and globally
