Job Summary & Responsibilities:

The Restructuring and Alternative Capital Group within the Investment Banking Division in New York is looking for an experienced senior associate or junior vice-president with current Leveraged Finance, Investment Banking, and/or Restructuring experience to join the team.

Our Restructuring team originates, structures, advises and executes loan, high yield bond and equity financings for corporate clients and financial sponsors, including stressed and distressed financings (DIP, Exits and Rescue financings) , M&A transactions, liability management and restructurings. The Restructuring Team serve as intermediaries between the debt capital markets (including sales, trading, research, and buyside investors) and our issuing clients. Given underwriting requirements for many of the transactions, the group works closely with many parts of the firm including Investment Banking Coverage and Industry Groups, Credit, Capital Markets, Research, amongst others teams.

Investment Banking Division associates and vice-presidents at Goldman Sachs are a vital part of the banking team. Through their extensive exposure to the firm's businesses and clients they develop an expansive knowledge of investment banking products and practices. This position within the Restructuring group will play an essential role in developing client relationships and executing client transactions. The associates and vice-presidents take an active role in developing, structuring and executing a broad range of advisory assignments and financial transactions for our clients.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, with a very strong base of investment banking technical knowledge, excellent interpersonal and communication skills. In addition, they will thoroughly enjoy working with a diverse group of people both at our clients and internally within our firm.

Responsibilities

The role in the Restructuring group combines many of the features of classic investment banking and sales and trading. This person will develop outstanding modeling, client relationship and new business generation skills. This person will be an integral member of a small, dynamic team and will be actively involved in managing transaction processes, developing models and analyses, and working across divisions on a variety of projects simultaneously. Associates and Vice-Presidents have opportunities to engage with clients and develop significant product knowledge while building a broad skill set in a short period of time.

This person will work closely with senior bankers in preparing written and oral presentations, running analytics, developing credit information for ratings agencies and investors, reviewing legal and other offering documents, and assisting in the valuation and financing associated with restructuring transactions.

Basic Qualifications

  • Candidate must have completed an undergraduate degree and be available to start immediately (subject to any notice period required by their current employer, if applicable)
  • At least 5 years of experience as in investment banking (or related financial position)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including modeling experience
  • Good presentation / communication skills with ability to effectively interact with groups across divisions (e.g., traders, sales, classic bankers)
  • Ability to form independent judgments and move transactions forward
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrate attention to detail
  • Drive and enthusiasm with a team orientation
  • Current (or desire to build) relationships in the restructuring community (lawyers, advisors, investors, etc.)
