What We Do

GS Techs is the Technical Strategy group of the Goldman Sachs Securities Division. The team focuses on price action analysis of the Foreign Exchange, Commodity, Interest Rate and Equity Markets. It employs classic technical analysis tools with an overlay of Elliott Wave techniques to cultivate short-/medium-/long-term technically driven views/themes in developed and emerging markets. Short-term chart analysis is conducted to find tactical opportunities to position or hedge in line with these underlying themes. GS Techs works with a wide variety of asset and liability side clients across the three major regions; Americas, EMEA and Asia.

As a strategist who sits in the Securities Division, you will play an integral role on the trading floor. You may create cutting-edge technical analysis models to provide insight into market behavior, or develop automated trading algorithms for the firm and its clients. You might be involved in analyzing trends and producing market content to meet client needs, or involved in designing and developing complex parallel computing architectures, electronic trading tools, and advanced algorithms. Throughout the Securities Division, strategists use quantitative and technological techniques to solve complex business problems.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Responsibilities



You will be asked to apply your quantitative and creative skills to develop and enhance models that are reliant on technical analysis, back-testing and optimization. These models may be used in client facing and internally distributed publications. You will also help automate the workflow by developing systematic quantitative solutions to drive efficiency in the production of content for clients internally and externally.
  • Quant-Technicals
    • Produce regular standing product and content covering quant-technical topics ranging from intermarket rotation/correlations, sentiment/behavior, momentum/trend, market timing, flow, breadth
      • Both integrated and independent of the existing publications ( Top Techs, Charts That Matter )
    • Programming skills required/preferred: Java/C++ and/or Python, R, Matlab
    • Automate market trading signals to support/complement/expand on existing GS Techs products
  • Stakeholders: FICC Securities
    • Build rapport, ongoing relationship with clients via calls, meetings and chats
    • Become a resource to Sales and Trading on all subjects relating to systematic/quantitative technicals
    • Resident techs expert for internal sales/trading meetings, share views regularly on Sales/Trading calls
    • Use own/GS Techs' high conviction views as an input into options/derivatives trade ideas
    • Custom or reverse inquiry work for specific clientele
  • Collaborative opportunities:
    • Develop, backtest and optimize algorithmic models established on technical analysis theories
    • Collaborate with FX Trading Desk to create custom signals
    • Collaborate with Systematic Trading Strategies team to create a separate indexed strategy that can be marketed externally to clients
  • Asset class coverage:
    • Macro : FX, Rates, Equities (excluding single name), Commodities

Basic Qualifications

  • BS/MS/PhD degree in a STEM/quantitative field
  • Strong software development skills
  • Excellent communication/writing skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiar and willing to learn about technical analysis
  • Project/work experience in quantitative finance
  • Ability to work autonomously, think creatively and have a problem-solving attitude
