The Consumer and Investment Management Division includes Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM), Private Wealth Management (PWM) and our Consumer business (Marcus by Goldman Sachs). RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

The Controls Testing & Issues Management Risk Associate role is part of Marcus Deposit's first line of defense by testing, monitoring and remediating to help ensure process-level risks and controls are closely managed to prevent and mitigate risk in the business. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Gather and synthesize data to perform root cause analysis and determine thematic trends related to testing failures and issues identified by the business and second and third lines of defense
  • Manage all aspects of issue identification, analysis, remediation and monitoring & reporting, including collaboration with issue owners, aggregation of issues across the business, and facilitation of executive reporting
  • Proactively identify potential business risks, process deficiencies and improvement opportunities and make recommendations for additional controls and corrective action to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of risk mitigation processes
  • Partner with other business units and support teams to remediate testing errors and assist with implementation of corrective actions related to testing fails and non-compliance with policies and procedures
  • Lead and deliver executive reporting and other data-driven deliverables, with a focus on providing appropriate content, context and structure in a precise and timely manner
  • Coordinate and facilitate the business controls meeting with key executive stakeholders
  • Focus on continuous improvement and evolution to meet changing requirements to support maximum visibility to the executive audience
  • Propose effective and efficient methods to enhance testing and sampling strategies (including automation) to ensure the most effective risk detection, analyses and control solutions
  • Participate in the administration of functional risk assessments and testing lifecycles of business policies and procedures for control effectiveness, while creating and maintaining relevant documentation
  • Be a critical thinker: Thoughtful, self-aware, and use available evidence to make decisions

  • Perform ad-hoc statistical analysis

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance or a related field
  • 4+ years related work experience
  • Experience building reports and presentations
  • Expert level proficiency in the Microsoft tool suite, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Advanced organizational, planning and time management skills
  • Advanced analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship building, communication (written and verbal) and negotiation skills
  • High level of creativity, perseverance and openness to change
  • Genuine excitement and passion for leading root cause analysis, troubleshooting technical process failures and implementing fixes to operationalize a process
  • Interest and ability to self-serve, investigate and get the data required to make quick and effective decisions
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and take ownership of various parts of an initiative while still following proper chain of command, and effectively working in a team environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage tight deadlines or unexpected changes in expectations or requirements

Preferred Qualifications
  • 4+ years banking experience, specifically in risk, compliance or corporate governance
  • Strong Risk Assessment Framework knowledge and experience performing risk assessments covering key risks and controls
  • Hands-on knowledge of framework design
  • Working knowledge of financial, operational, compliance and reputation risks
  • Experience aggregating and analyzing various types of risks and data with output to dashboards and/or formal written assessments
  • Experience with Agile or Scrum development processes
