VMware / Windows Design Consultant, IT Hosting Solutions

Basic qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and experience in developing IT solutions and services

At least 5 years of experience with IT Hosting Solutions

Knowledge of VMware and Microsoft technologies.

Expert knowledge of enterprise-wide solutions

Demonstrated experience in working with IT service owners and 3rd Party solution providers to develop service or improve process performance.

Demonstrated ability for sound judgment with strong emphasis on quality, cost and service improvement

Preferred qualifications:

Experience and track record in continuous improvement.

Demonstrated experience with VMware and Microsoft hypervisor technologies

Demonstrated experience with Microsoft operating systems and management tools (System Center)

Demonstrated experience with HPe server hardware (ProLiant c-Class, Virtual Connect and Apollo lines)

VMware / Microsoft Certification (VCP / MSCE)

Strong written and oral communications skills.

Strong teamwork, interpersonal and influencing skills, as well as networking capabilities within IT organization

Ability to repurpose or extend existing solutions to meet new requirements.

Experience working in a complex global regulated organization.

Good knowledge of enterprise infrastructure computer solutions.

  • Collaborates effectively across boundaries within EIS and CBS.
  • Establishes clear accountability for delivery.
  • Understands, embraces and leverages current and emerging technologies to bring relevant innovation and/or improvement to business processes, strategies, efficiencies or other opportunities.

Job Purpose:

The IT Consultant, ITHS is responsible for assisting and where appropriate to lead the design and/or implementation of technical solutions that will address the global needs across all GSK business units where successful design has strong financial implications for GSK. The purpose of the role is to design, or assist with the design process, infrastructure computing solutions that meet the needs of the business, integrate with the existing GSK infrastructure, and align with the stated strategic direction of the server technology environment within GSK.

This is a collaborative role, functioning as part of a multi-disciplined team. The role is of a global nature, providing infrastructure solutions to multiple business units supporting over 100,000 users. This will include liaising with business units, industry peers and third-parties to gather requirements, benchmark, and assess needs for appropriate infrastructure solutions to be developed.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Maintain solutions that are cost effective, robust, and globally scalable

Work with global stakeholders to define technical deliverables based on customer business requirements and assist the design lead for infrastructure solutions.

Ensure new solutions and services meet regulatory, risk, security requirement and industry best practices using benchmarking.

Document solutions according to GSK standards. e.g. GxP, ITIL, ITMS

Support development of RFQ and RFP's to ensure supplier solutions align to GSK design standards.

Act as GSK technical liaison when communicating with GSK IT vendors.

Act as a subject matter expert in support of problem management.

Influence enterprise-wide infrastructure computing standards

Act as a subject matter expert in support of root cause analysis and elimination of service degradation or outage.

Research, evaluate, and recommend alternatives in enterprise-wide solutions
