US Medical Affairs-Medical Expert-Immunology and Rare Disease (NO Relocation to Headquarters Needed)
- Medical Doctor with board qualifications in Rheumatology is required.
- Academic experience (+10 years) in Rheumatology.
- Record of proven record of publications and communications and experience with medicine development.
- Experience in Rheumatology, SLE & Vasculitis. Patient experience with belumumab preferred.
- Has practical and broad working experience in the US with an established broad network of experts in Rheumatology.
- High level of ethics and integrity
- Pharmaceutical experience in R&D or Medical Affairs position and/or experience in external HCP Interactions between HCPs and Pharma/BIO Industry is an asset
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills; strong presentation skills

Within the US Medical Affairs (USMA) organization there are two primary Therapy Areas: 1) Specialty, Rare Disease, Classic and Established Medicines and 2) Respiratory. Each team is supported by Medical/Scientific Directors, health outcome scientists, field medical liaisons, medical information scientists, strategic capabilities, medical governance, operations and analytics. The US Medical Affairs organization provides critical insight into the needs of US Medical customers and patients, ensuring the accuracy and relevance of GSK's medical and scientific information in the US and assessing the evidence needs for US prescribers and payers.
The US Medical Expert reports to the USMA, Vice President& Therapeutic Area Head –Specialty, Rare Disease, Classic & Established Medicines and is responsible at the therapy area level for providing high-value rheumatology expertise to the internal organization, and leading external communications and engagement designed to educate, gain external expert insight and advocacy. The scope of the work is primarily national and the incumbent is accountable to lead across the immunology and rare diseases matrix and external customers to ensure credible scientific and promotional engagements with customers.
Providing highly informed scientific advice and support for the clinical development, economic valuation and commercialization of our medicines has become increasingly more essential in our ability to bring medicines of value to the market and to support patient accessibility. The urgency for dialogue both external to and within GSK is a result of the pace of scientific advancements and our changing customer landscape.
GSK has made a commitment to increase our medical external engagement to ensure we effectively engage key stakeholders who are top experts in their respective scientific communities. Medical experts are advising on and/or actively setting United States health policies and guidelines that impact on health care research, healthcare delivery and policy with potential implications for GSK therapeutic portfolios. GSK recognizes the need to strategically engage medical experts at a scientific level and in the various clinical and scientific discussions that play an influential role in shaping and setting national and global health practices and policies.
This executive director level position is necessary to provide ensure the highest scientific integrity across our portfolio Immunology/Rheumatology within U. S. Medical Affairs. The Medical Expert must be viewed as highly credible within the specific therapeutic area by external experts. The position provides an essential bridge to GSK that will enable the delivery of medicines of value to the market and patient. The education and experience required for this position is essential to ensure credibility to facilitate engagement with external medical community, to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of interpretation and integration of information within GSK. To ensure the continuum of peer to peer/clinical experiential conversations, the continuance of one day a month in a clinical practice setting is essential.
