  • 8+ years experience in product & process development and the successful application of computational simulation and modelling approaches (first principle, stochastic or hybrid) are a MUST.
  • In-depth understanding of the business side of the Pharma industry – any proof of business skills is a definite plus.
  • Open-minded & collaborative approach.
  • Creative and problem-solving mindset.
  • Excellent communication & influencing skills.
  • Strong decision-making & drive for excellence.
  • Excellent command of the English language, French & other languages a plus.

Preferred qualifications:

See "Basic Qualifications".

Job Purpose:

Are you a recognized expert in the field of in silico Simulation & Modeling? Do you want to be the driving force behind the successful application of these principles in the Vaccines Technical R&D?

You could be a founding member of the newly formed group Value-centered Design & Modeling (VcDM) that has the mission to transform the way we develop new products, methods and processes.

The VcDM group is part of a larger Statistical Science organization and hence offers plenty of opportunities for close collaboration and personal growth with the Statisticians and Data Scientists.

The Technical R&D (TRD) Senior Manager Process Modelling will support the mission of the Value-centered Design & Modeling (VcDM) group that will act collectively as change agents to ensure the application of new technologies & manufacturing concepts in technical product and bio-process development that deliver value to our internal customers and the market place. The focus will be on transformational initiatives that:

  1. Improve speed to market.

  2. Improve cost-effectiveness.

  3. Enable to achieve competitive product differentiation.

The VcDM group is part of a larger Statistical Science organization and hence offers plenty of opportunities for close collaboration and personal growth with the Statisticians and Data Scientists.

Key Responsibilities:

You will steer and guide the development in the TRD functional departments of first principle and stochastic models at small scale that are representative for the behavior and performance of larger-scale and commercial processes. This will be instrumental to achieve detailed and reliable process characterization and understanding through enabling extensive analysis (DoEs) performed at small scale. Outputs of this activity will feed the process analysis and optimization activity and will enforce the QbD framework.

Steer and guide the TRD functional departments for:

  • Development and validation of small scale models.
  • Early identification of critical process parameters together with the process experts.
  • Ensuring representative small scale equipment.
  • Small scale model development for cross-functional, transversal process operations (mostly mixing processes).
  • Support and build chemical & bio-process engineering expertise in the TRD functional departments to enable correct process modeling (e.g. understanding of shear in vessels, TFF, centrifuges, filling lines; hydrodynamic regime (Re), vortex (Fr) & Power curves (Np); reaction rates, product degradation and kinetics; segregation, sedimentation, homogenization; heat transfer, freezing/thawing dynamics).
  • Support & contribute to the process analysis & optimization work-flow in VcDM.
  • Liaise intensively with the Global Industrial Operations (GIO) organization to allow smooth transfer of process model and ensure a unified approach across the value chain.
  • Act as a transformational change agent to adopt & enhance the application of process modeling in the different functions supporting as such the QbD and PAT framework which is absolutely crucial to deliver the TRD mission.

Our Offer:

At GSK we provide a supportive working environment, and a range of development challenges and opportunities. We also offer competitive benefits and compensation packages designed to attract and to retain the very best. GSK is proud to promote an open culture, encouraging people to be themselves and giving their ideas a chance to flourish. GSK is an equal opportunity employer.

The Department:

Patient-focused Research and Development (R&D) is the heart of our business. Our R&D department seeks to discover and develop new vaccines, to protect against diseases where vaccines are not yet available and to improve on those vaccines that already exist. Part of our R&D programme targets diseases particularly prevalent in the developing world, including the World Health Organisation's three priority diseases - HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. Research into candidate vaccines for other diseases of the developing world, such as dengue are at an earlier stage of development.

When it comes to developing the vaccines of the future, we're looking for real experts in their respective fields who are interested in working in the stimulating environment of an international healthcare company.

We emphasise the value of teamwork and we look for people ready to share our values of transparency, respect, integrity and patient focus.

Our Company:

GSK is a science-led global healthcare company with a mission to help people do more, feel better, live longer. At GSK, we research, manufacture and make available a broad range of medicines, vaccines and consumer healthcare products.

GSK Vaccines is a world's leading company, involved in vaccine research, development and production. We have 16 candidate vaccines in development and our broad portfolio of around 40 vaccines prevent illnesses such as hepatitis A, hepatitis B, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, measles, mumps, rubella, polio, typhoid, influenza and bacterial meningitis. Globally, we have more than 16.000 people working to deliver vaccines safely, every day, to people in 90% of the world's countries. In 2014 we distributed around 800 million doses of vaccine, 80% of them to least developed, low and middle income countries.
