R&D IT Business Consultant

Basic qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Science or Computer Science or equivalent

Significant level of business consulting or scientific data handling experience in Pharmaceutical Industry

Experience using methodologies and tools to improve R&D processes and practices

Experience facilitating business change, identifying and analyzing R&D requirements for new IT systems, and identifying creative solutions that maximize impact while minimizing time and cost

Ability to work independently with senior R&D management

Preferred qualifications:

Master's Degree in Science or Computer Science

Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills on a multi-country basis

Strong communication skills both verbally and written.

5+ years of business consulting or scientific data handling experience in Pharmaceutical Industry.

Exposure to IT Systems used Pharma Product Development and/or Supply.

Job Purpose:

To work with designated R&D groups to identify opportunities to improve internal performance by optimizing processes, facilitating change and exploiting information technology to meet R&D objectives. To provide business consulting and analysis expertise in the development of IT strategies for R&D.

To perform business analysis activities to define R&D needs, develop the benefits case for change or process improvement projects, define requirements, develop project charters and ensure benefit is delivered. To take an active role in the management of data in R&D systems to facilitate its use by scientists.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Assist with the development of IT strategies for R&D.

Perform analysis during design, development and implementation of change and process redesign, working with Project Managers, Technical Leads and Architects to ensure that requirements are met and benefits realized for IT projects.

Define R&D requirements and the benefits case for investments; define user requirements; identify and analyze alternative solutions, and develop project charters and scope through negotiation and agreement with R&D project sponsors.

Represent IT on R&D management teams, cross-functional teams, and committees.

Use analytical techniques and tools to improve R&D performance or solve problems by optimizing processes, facilitating change, improving compliance with existing processes, and applying information technologies.

Manage process redesign and change projects involving transnational matrix teams.

Maintain register of risks associated with R&D IT applications and ensure appropriate ownership is communicated and agreed

Accountable for the management of IT aspects of business initiatives (such as audits, M&As etc.) and assist R&D in managing changes due to new processes introduced from IT initiatives

Accountable for the effective management of information and data to support business users through the definition, development and maintenance of a target application landscape (TAL)

Facilitate communications between R&D and IT.

Identify interdependency of changes in R&D processes and IT systems.

Work with R&D IT SDS to ensure that R&D scientists receive the systems and support required.

Partner with R&D IT colleagues to optimize the R&D IT product portfolio.

Develop and maintain understanding of:

  • Knowledge of R&D processes, systems and objectives;
  • Industry-wide practices and trends in IT solutions for R&D;
  • Mainstream development methodologies, analysis techniques, target architecture guidelines and standards.
