Medicinal Chemistry

Your Responsibilities:
We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to join our hit to lead medicinal chemistry group in Collegeville, PA. Our group partners with program teams across GSK's therapy area units to deliver high quality small molecule starting points for lead optimization. The successful applicant will become fluent in hit to lead medicinal chemistry and hit identification tactics, while operating independently as a highly productive and knowledgeable synthetic chemist. Initial responsibilities will include the design and synthesis of improved analogs of screening hits. Where appropriate, the investigator may lead a small team in these chemistry efforts, and will also work closely with program leaders and screening scientists to advice on the hit selection and qualification process. Excellent communication skills are essential as the chemist will be interfacing with the multiple business partners in drug discovery.

• PhD in Chemistry
• Expertise in state-of-the art synthetic organic chemistry
• Excellent problem solving skills
• Scientific record demonstrating excellence in chemistry (e.g. publications, patents, presentations)

Preferred qualifications:
• 1-5 years postdoctoral experience and/or industrial experience
• Expertise in both synthetic methodology development and total synthesis
• A basic understanding of medicinal chemistry concepts
• Proactive and self-motivated with good organizational skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• High learning agility
• Track record of working effectively in a team environment
• Experience developing other scientists (e.g. supervising a student)
