Host-Microbe Informatics Post-Doctoral Fellow
This Early Talent postdoctoral fellowship (3 year) with the Computational Biology Department involves working with multiple therapy area teams on the interactions between the microbiome, pathogens and human host immunity. The roles of both beneficial and pathogenic microbes on human host pathways are being increasingly linked to the occurrences of many chronic and infectious diseases. With the rapid expansion of genomics and drug screening platforms, there is a significant opportunity for data-mining these resources to identify novel human gene targets modulated by microbial metabolites and peptides for the treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases. The successful candidate will participate in multidisciplinary drug discovery teams by contributing novel genomics and chemistry analyses (chemogenomics) on human host-microbe interactions; provide expert knowledge to scientific teams; make presentations to internal and external scientific conferences and; be the lead author of manuscripts submitted to high impact, scientific peer-reviewed journals. This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in applying their chemoinformatics and bioinformatics skills to translational and transformative medicine projects in a large pharmaceutical R&D organization.
• Recent PhD in bioinformatics / computational science / biomedical engineering/ biological sciences or equivalent research experience.
• Demonstrated skills to programmatically analyse complex biomedical and compound assay datasets.
• Experience in the analysis of microbiome and human genomic datasets especially from Next Generation DNA sequencing platforms.
• Demonstrated ability to use chemoinformatics approaches to solve problems in chemical biology, drug discovery or related fields.
• Expertise in computer languages such as Python, Perl, R Statistics and Java.
• Knowledge of Machine Learning methods are an advantage.
• Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to work well with multi-disciplinary teams.
• Evidence of publication authorship in peer reviewed journals.
