Basic qualifications:

  • MBA (by September 2018)
  • Ability to work in multinational environment, across cultures and in matrix environment.
  • Proven ability to function in high pace and changing environment.
  • Evidence of bringing innovative thinking and an ability to act as a change agent.
  • Proven accelerated development in career to date.

What is Procurement in GSK?

Procurement in GSK is a global function, with close to 1000 employees around the world, based in 67 countries. Global Procurement is responsible for proactively managing more than £12 Billion of 3rd party spend, managing 450,000 suppliers in 92 countries.

GSK Procurement's mission is to influence the company's entire third-party expenditure, partnering with business units and driving value from supplier relationships to support GSK's strategies and targets.

Procurement activity includes managing a range of goods and services that can be split into (i) direct and (ii) indirect categories. The direct category includes materials that are purchased that will go into the actual medicines, vaccines and products that GSK sells into markets worldwide. Indirect categories are services that are purchased by the organisation to support its operations and commercial activities, these may include for example: research and development expenditure, marketing services, IT and travel.

The Esprit Programme is GlaxoSmithKline's leading global talent development programme for MBA qualified candidates which builds a pipeline of diverse leaders, with the right capabilities and behaviours to drive GSK's future strategic challenges. You'll bring with you a wealth of knowledge and will recognize that there's still plenty for you to learn and experience to become an extraordinary leader.

The Esprit Procurement Leadership programmes overall goal is to support, stretch, develop and deliver leaders of the future. You will build your breadth of experience and leadership capabilities through this accelerated development programme.

How does the Esprit Procurement Leadership programme work?

You will spend 3 years on a fast track development programme, working your way towards a Senior Procurement leadership role.

Beginning in your home country, you will have 3 rotations, which may include international experience. The rotations will be designed to cover the different areas within Procurement and will be designed to expose you to 3 key capability areas of procurement: Strategic Global Category Management, Analytics & Operations, and Regional Procurement. The rotations will span across diverse areas of GSK's business, to mention, commercial, R&D, corporate services and manufacturing.

Through challenging rotations, you will gain in-depth procurement and business knowledge across a range of disciplines, including Negotiation, Strategic Sourcing, Data & Analytics, Team Leadership and Commercial Partnering. Throughout the Esprit Procurement programme, you will cultivate a broad global business perspective, further develop your learning curve and accelerating your career plan. Every step of the way we'll provide you with intensive development, training and support to help you to achieve your greatest potential.
