Country Privacy Advisor, Singapore

Basic qualifications:

As a minimum, 5 years experience in designing Controls and successfully managing Risks and Data protection Compliance while demonstrating knowledge of business operations, security and supporting information systems

Preferred qualifications:

  • Certification of international Privacy Professional (CIPP)
  • Experience of what constitutes an effective control framework and supporting compliance programmes,
  • Strong problem solving skills that are pragmatic, which demonstrates a strong understanding of business processes and information systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence individuals at all levels of the organization


The Country Privacy Advisor (CPA) is the primary contact of local Regulators, provides leadership in driving local compliance activities across all legal entities, and is responsible for building an effective partnership with other CPAs in the region. As a CPA you will oversee implementation of a fit for purpose compliance programme and internal controls Framework for all Data protection related matters in accordance with Laws and Regulations in your markets. You will work closely with the Data Protection officer (DPO) in markets where required under the General Data Protection Regulation.

The Role & Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Country Compliance

  1. Support the Privacy Center of Excellence in deploying the enterprise-wide privacy compliance programme locally in partnership with Privacy Legal Counsel, in line with all GSK's internal policies, regulations and timelines set by the country laws and regulations in their countries.

  2. Report on progress and gaps to the Country Executive Board (CEB) which is formed of Country GMs and site director of all legal entities

  3. Review of new or changes to Privacy laws or Privacy policies, standards, tools and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  4. Review the role-based target audience for training

  5. Advise local process owners and third party managers in applying the 'Privacy by design' principles at the outset of country projects and perform Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs).

  6. Supporting the closure of local Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPAs) coming from PIAs, internal audits, external investigations, Independent Business Monitoring (IBM), regulatory changes

  7. Consult with, and seek advice of the DPO, and provide any support requested by the DPO

Regulatory management : the CPA own the relationship with Data Protection Authorities (DPAs)

  1. Respond to Enquiries and Complaints from data subjects or DPAs

  2. Support the Business aligned Privacy Leaders (PLs) or Regional Privacy Officers (RPOs) to notify the Data Privacy Authority of breaches within applicable timeframes

  3. Review changes to local Privacy Laws together with the legal counsel and support local CAPA plan remediation

  4. Educate PLs and RPOs on Country-specific privacy risks

Regional Governance : the CPA are active members of a Regional Network chaired by the RPO

  1. Review the content of GSK Privacy Policy, SOPs, standards and training materials to ensure country-specific content and requirements are addressed and report back to the RPO

  2. Provide updates on the Country monitoring activities to the CPA regional Network (10 Meetings/year)

  3. Share and gather good practices from your country with other CPAs


As a CPA, you will need to have the technical and regulatory credibility to represent GSK externally with regulators and also the executive presence to gain trust from local management and data subjects.

At a minimum, you have 5 years' experience in designing Controls and successfully managing Risks & Data protection compliance while demonstrating a solid knowledge of business operations, security and supporting information systems in a highly matrixed environment. Certification of international Privacy Professional (CIPP) is expected along with proven experience of what constitutes an effective control framework and supporting compliance programmes. You need to be able to connect with peers in the industry to allow sharing of best practices and have an ability to provide strategic advice as well as operational solutions.

The role of a CPA demands a high level of personal integrity, and the ability to professionally handle highly confidential matters and exude the appropriate level of judgment and maturity. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate Legal and risk-related concepts to technical and non-technical audience is a must.
