Commercial Head, Early Assets and Business Development

Your Responsibilities:
Reporting to the SVP Global Oncology Franchise, this newly created Commercial Head Early Assets and Business Development will be responsible for overseeing the development of the commercial strategy for all oncology pre-clinical and phase 1 assets such as ICOS, BET, PRMT5, and OX40, and any assets that may come through business development activities.

You will provide commercial leadership focus and accountability for a team of Early Commercial Global Marketing Directors. Together with Oncology BD colleagues, this team will collaborate to evaluate potential external opportunities, focusing on the commercial assessment and key global capabilities needed to successfully integrate the asset into the GSK portfolio.

In this role you will be highly influential in the future direction and growth of the oncology franchise. You will oversee the development of consistent, transparent and high-quality commercial recommendations for medicine development and share with senior colleagues in both the TA and commercial organisations. In addition, you will make clear recommendations on business development opportunities within the TA and interact with Local Operating Companies (LOCs)/Regions across the portfolio of medicines in development to ensure all recommendations are supported/vetted by operating regions.


Key Responsibilities

Ensure use of commercial expertise and scientific acumen across Oncology's therapeutic areas to support the development of an early differentiated strategy.

Delivering insightful generation of commercial insights, by applying flexible thinking to integrate and consolidate insights from multiple disciplines and geographic perspectives to generate options for key project decisions. You will ensure a consistent approach across all therapeutic areas leading to better evaluation and presentation of commercial business cases.

Driving insightful sequencing of indications and patient segments. Applies rigorous approach to ensure all reporting Global Marketing Directors use a consistent way of sequencing indications and helping inform Disease Performance Unit priorities. In his/her own managed therapeutic area, identifies the elements of development programmes that optimise value for patients, (e.g. sequence of indications, target population, endpoints and comparators).

Providing effective communication of commercial needs to PIB/DIB and TA Heads. Ensuring effective and consistent communication of commercial insights to the senior leaders of the Oncology therapeutic areas. Ensuring presentations to key governance bodies at critical investment inflection points for assets are clear and consistent, demonstrate the value to payors, physicians and patients, and enabling GSK governance bodies to make the right long-term decisions.

Fostering effective partnering across the organization. Setting an expectation in the team of connection and collaboration with key partners e.g. Commercial Analytics, Market Access, VEO, and Epidemiology, and establishes standards of deliverables.

Applying a continuous improvement approach to ensure all Global Marketing Directors improve the quality of documentation. Effectively synthesizes documents and communicates insights, key strategic recommendations and the rationale behind them. Leads the Early Commercial team to foster a two-way learning exchange across medicines and TAs and Global marketing teams by creating an environment of rapid sharing of insights and learnings.


Technical Skills & Experience

Significant oncology therapeutic area experience

Substantial global strategic marketing experience

Demonstrated solid understanding of scientific, medicine and market development that drives commercialisation of innovative medicines

Successful results delivery at the industry/healthcare authority/customer interface, minimally in more than one market and/or business

Strong R&D fluency including experience operating at the R&D and commercial interface

Successful leadership of complex cross-unit business initiatives

Successful commercialisation experience across the development - marketing interfaces

Strong analytical skills and experience of analysing business development opportunities

Strong stakeholder management experience and has successfully demonstrated an ability to engage with senior leaders

Scientific learning agility and curiosity and ability to grasp new disease states quickly

Experience in medical affairs or R&D would be advantageous

Experience working on early stage partnerships would be advantageous

BD experience would be advantageous
