API Process Safety Scientist

Your Responsibilities:
As part of a small, lab-based team, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that chemical processes to prepare APIs are properly assessed for process safety hazards prior to scale-up in laboratory, pilot plant, and manufacturing environments. They will work closely with process development colleagues (chemists, engineers, formulation scientists, pilot plant personnel, process safety scientists) in identifying potential reactive hazards and establishment of process control solutions.

The core role will involve laboratory testing (e.g., thermal stability screening, reaction calorimetry), data evaluation, and literature review to support hazard evaluations.
Experience in these techniques is essential, coupled with ongoing training and development within the role.
The candidate will prepare reports based on investigation results and communicate recommendations to colleagues to deliver safe and robust chemical API processes for scale-up.

Basic qualifications:
Graduate with BSc, or equivalent, in chemistry or chemical engineering.
Successful candidates will have experience in conducting hazard evaluations and risk assessments to support scale-up of chemical processes into a chemical plant environment.
The successful candidate will have worked in a chemical process safety laboratory environment.

Preferred qualifications:
MSc, or equivalent, graduate with at least 5 years chemical process safety experience and a working knowledge of both chemistry and chemical engineering is preferred.
Additionally, the successful candidate will demonstrate good communication skills and the ability to work constructively in a team environment.
