Job Description Summary

The On-Site Service Specialist will have technical knowledge and experience working with GE/Alstom generators. He/she is responsible for the on-site maintenance of major rotating equipment components. This position requires 60 - 70% travel both domestically and globally.

Roles and Responsibilities

• All on site life extensions, repairs and inspection-related service activities able to be performed at customer site includes onsite winding, critical welding, generator diagnostics.
• Broadening knowledge of own technical discipline to execute policy/strategy. May include support roles with specialized technical field of knowledge; still acquiring higher level knowledge and skills.
• Basic understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. Good understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
• May have some autonomy to make decisions within a defined framework. Resolves issues in situations that require good technical knowledge and judgment within established procedures. Consults more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters.
• A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills and may be required to lead a junior team. For customer facing roles, develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE. Explains technical information to others.

Required Qualifications

• Diploma or certificate in Electromechanics, Mechanics, or Mechatronics issued by an educational institution recognized by the Ministry of Education.
• Registration with Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Technician.
• 5 - 7 years' experience with winding and or experience with generator disassembly, repair and assembly.
• Knowledge of the office package (Excel, Word, Power Point, Internet).
• Valid National Driver's License (B).
• Willingness and ability to travel for work globally on short notice and for extended periods of time, including weekends and holidays.

Desired Characteristics

• Experience in Alstom or GE generators.
• Initiative, teamwork, concentration and good communication.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Valid passport.
• Permitted to work in all power plants in South Africa.
• Analytical ability and accessory suggestion.
• Experience in field service or maintenance.
