Job Description Summary
The Engineering Leader demonstrates accountability for Engineering function, business, and broad company objectives. This person is accountable for overall project engineering delivery ensuring solutions align precisely with customer requirements and Local & global standards for project delivery. He/she shall be responsible for leading and support the full engineering activities from presales, bid phase to commissioning of various power projects such as Substation ( Onshore, offshore, Data centres and other Industries), FACTS & HVDC.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead Team & Talent Development: Guide, coach, and manage an engineering team in designing and validating the engineering solution for Substation. Support ongoing talent development and recruitment initiatives.
- Technical Direction: Deliver expert leadership in engineering project processes, promoting harmonized global standards across all project phases. Provide decisive technical guidance and ensure rigorous adherence to best practices.
- Project & Resource Management: Oversee engineering resources, schedules, and project milestones. Define work breakdown structures (WBS), resource allocations, and required skill sets to meet delivery timelines. Validate Projects' resource needs and work estimations, maintain healthy resource portfolio (capacity forecasting and recruitment)
- Customer & Stakeholder Engagement: Interface closely with customers and internal/external stakeholders to translate business needs and technical requirements into actionable engineering specifications.
- Quality & Compliance Oversight: Ensure project plans include required studies and activities that guarantee technical compliance, reliability, and safety.
- Risk Management: Lead technical reviews, anticipate project risks, identify potential weaknesses, and implement reliable mitigation strategies.
- Engineering Process: Mentor and enforce engineering process rigor (first-time right culture, quality checks/milestones and change management) Seek and deploy Continuous Improvement and Process improvement opportunities
- KPI : Projects' engineering KPIs (on-time delivery, quality and cost)
- Strategic Leadership: Shape functional policies, build strategic external partnerships, and promote the organization's vision and values in both daily execution and long-term planning.
Customer Technical Interfaces relationship
- Acting as a point of contact for GE Grid Solutions for the Customer and the Customers' Contractors having an interface with GE Grid Solutions
- Analyze customer technical requirements at project launching in collaboration with each discipline to identify scope limits and gaps
- Track and manager customers' comments, technical queries in matter of interface during project execution and launch appropriate actions to have clear and agreed interfaces
- Manage the adequate interfaces agenda content for the Customer Design liaison meeting
- Coordinate Customer technical interface request or comments with the Participant
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor's or higher degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field, with a strong focus on Electrical Substation, FACTS & HVDC
- Preferably 15+ years' experience in engineering and with minimum 7 years of experience in people supervision
- Experience from Substation/Grid connected technology and projects, eg. FACTS, HVDC
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Demonstrated experience managing and developing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English and Japanese
- Proven capability in stakeholder management and cross-functional leadership.
- Extensive background in project management across large, technical engineering projects.
- Ability to prioritize, plan, and execute complex technical programs independently, while maintaining quality and meeting tight deadlines
Desired Characteristics
- Knowledge on international standards IEC / IEEE, local JIS, Grid code requirements and design practices in electrical power industry.
- Certification or practical experience in process improvement methodologies or root cause analysis (RCA).
- Experience in defining and enforcing technical requirements according to industry best practices.
- Direct exposure to Protection & Control system design in HVDC contexts is a significant advantage.
- Strong oral and written communication skill with proficiency in Japanese & English.
- Ability to work independently.
- Capability to lead project independently along with Client handling.
