Sr. Software Engineer, Kafka

Job Summary:
The Senior Software Engineer focus is on leading the development and support of cloud infrastructure. The position is responsible for leading the feature development, support and maintenance of Kafka for both the brokers as well as the producer/consumer client development. They will work closely with the Architecture and SRE teams, and act as an advocate for how others interact/use Kafka, as well as a resource to help guide best practices.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:

    Job includes management of Messaging platform (Kafka): design, deployment, configuration scripts, and supporting documentation. Work with individuals and dev teams to design reusable components, frameworks and libraries for a microservices based enterprise application, deployed completely in the Cloud. Responsible for building and deploying highly-available, fault-tolerant, big-data microservices. Build, maintain and automate highly scalable, large scale deployments in AWS, globally. Review code and provide feedback relative to best practices and improving performance for both the Kafka server and Kafka client usage. Troubleshoot production support issues post-deployment and come up with solutions as required. Implementing the CI/CD pipeline using a git repository for all artifacts/files. Prior experience from design to production of Kafka/Kinesis on use cases such as in connecting to stream data sources, lambda functions, microservices architectures. Rotating on-call support.

Required Qualifications:
    Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related work experience. 5+ years' experience in software engineering and in Java. Experience with synchronization techniques in stateless distributed systems. Experience with messaging platforms preferred, ideally Kafka. Demonstrable understanding of scalability and availability in distributed systems. Working experience with REST API back-end services. Strong understanding of Linux, AWS and networking fundamentals. Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting and fault resolution skills. A strong data-driven/fact-based decision maker. Comfortable interacting with developers and consumers of message bus design. Prefers working in fast-paced environment. Experience working with remote engineering teams. Effective verbal and written communicator. Strong collaboration and listening skills. Patient, calm, and respectful work demeanor.
