Principal Research Analyst, Gartner Research


Job Description

The successful candidate will create and maintain a body of Gartner research and analysis relating to the selection implementation and adoption of applications in midsize enterprises. Particular focus will be research that provides the context needed by midsize enterprises to successfully source and build/modernize applications with the disciplines, tools and cultural changes needed to create, deliver and sustain software in order to support new business capabilities. The research will target providing insight, thought-leading predictions and actionable advice to Gartner clients. The candidate will focus on written and customer-facing deliverables that retain and grow Gartner contract value in midsize enterprise accounts.

Day-to-Day Job Functions

Define and conduct ongoing research and analysis covering the leading practices and vendor solutions for sourcing applications and services in midsize enterprises.

Perform research by reading, networking with clients, vendors and analysts, evaluating and analyzing information and participating in Research Meetings and other activities which comprise the Gartner research process

Produce industry/role-specific research geared towards midsize enterprises IT leaders. Specify and design vendor and user surveys and questionnaires

Provide midsize enterprise insights to other Gartner analysts to help them understand and write to this market segment more effectively

Collaborate with other Gartner analysts to identify trends and impacts that can be modified and used by midsize enterprises in the subject matter

Perform strategic analysis of market, market segment and regional/country trends multi-segment and sometimes multi-program data analysis. Add value to the research by analysis (which may include triangulation, pattern recognition, application of experience)

Answer telephone and email inquiries from clients in covered topic areas

Create materials for and deliver face-to-face before large and small audiences, teleconferenced and taped presentations to clients.

Provide individualized consulting for clients, which involves presentations regarding Gartner research and findings to individual companies or providing advice to a user or vendor client for a day or two

Provide sales support by speaking to prospective and existing clients via telephone, by making face-to face sales calls with sales personnel and by delivering speeches at "prospectors" (half-day seminars whose purpose is attracting prospective clients)



Qualifications:


Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a related computer science or business related field; (Masters or MBA) preferred

Minimum of 10 years’ work experience in a relevant client user organization encompassing a collaborative DevOps approach to software deployment and maintenance.

Expertise in managing a custom applications development environment preferably in a midsize enterprise. This could include: systems integration, DevOps and business liaison experience and expertise coupled with expertise in how best to govern and support these applications on midsize enterprises. Experience with SaaS applications and implementation is a plus.

Experience/expertise with modern enterprise application methods, including:

Agile

Bimodal IT

DevOps

Lean Development

Mobile applications

Application Maintenance Methods and Outsourcing

Integration Strategy and API Management

Software Asset Management

Mobile application development and deployment

Cloud application deployment strategies

The candidate’s relevant experience could either from a user/IT shop or vendor/service provider.

Strong financial and business acumen, strong attention to detail.

Basic understanding of market research, data collection and analysis

Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to explain complex concepts both concisely and simply.

Strong time/project management skills.

A strong team working ethos.
