Technical Manager, Yarn (IPSS) GENERAL SUMMARY: The Technical Manager, Yarn is considered the Subject Matter Expert in yarn manufacturing, working in the Mill Management Team and cross functional innovation COE for Intimates, Performance, Swimwear and Seamless (IPSS) Categories. The role requires a thorough understanding of yarn manufacturing, in depth knowledge of extrusion and spinning and should have knowledge and experience on finishes and additives for yarn performance. This incumbent should have a strong network and market intelligence of Yarn, chemical, machinery suppliers & manufacturers and be able to leverage on this to experience and disrupt current ways of working in order to create innovative solutions for sportswear. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for working in cross functional tiger teams and use his/her technical skills to realize the innovation projects undertaken as part of the innovation COE work Responsible to create an ecosystem of suppliers, technology providers, mills and experts to create ground breaking solutions to bring newness in the industry. Be a radical thinker and approach each challenge with ‘out of the box thinking’ to create solves for inherent issues faced in the sportswear industry. Be a thought partner to Innovation COE by advising creative approaches to commercialize ideas to make Brand “first to market”. Provide technical advice as well as education to merchandising teams and vendors on challenges faced for seasonal and non-seasonal developments. Trouble-shooting and quality issue follow up - Ensure vendor to set up follow up action for in-season/CIQ & customer complaint issues Demonstrate deep expertise in the area of Yarn Manufacturing - establish guidelines and create new testing approaches for quality improvement Provide inputs to Global PI/QA teams for the Policies/Manuals/Tech Bulletins ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS: Internal: Mills Management, Technical, Design, R&D, Innovation COE External : Vendors, Mills, yarn manufacturers, industry experts QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: Post Graduate in Science.Advanced degree preferred Minimum 15 years of experience in yarn mill and exposure in managing Product Conformity related Policies and procedures At least 5 years in Management position Wide Technical knowledge on Yarn Manufacturing (extrusion and spinning) Proficiency with MS Office Professional applications (MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word) Ability to manage, motivate and develop others Demonstrated ability to influence cross functional leaders and peers to achieve business results Ability to effectively manage and plan resources to achieve goals and support unplanned work Demonstrated ability to deal head-on with issues and challenging situations Ability to plan and successfully lead complex negotiations Ability to deal with multiple stakeholders, including internal/ external or overseas stakeholders Strong Project management and organizational skills Excellent verbal, presentation, and written skills Ability to travel as required Interested in this role or in joining another part of the Gap Inc.
