Senior Manager - Product Safety


The Senior Manager, Product Safety, manages the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure consumer safety. Leads a team of managers who ensure that Gap Inc's product standards/safety, labeling, and marketing reflect current consumer product safety regulations and guidelines. Develops and provides education and guidance to Gap Inc. brands. Supports the troubleshooting and root cause analysis of manufacturing defects that could create safety hazards.


Leads, trains and motivates Gap Inc.'s Corporate Product Safety team. Coaches the Product Safety team, providing leadership and development to build skills and ensure consistent approaches to troubleshooting, problem solving and policy implementation. Identifies training opportunities for entire team as well as individuals.

In partnership with key stakeholders, develops procedural modifications to adapt to business changes (shortened product development pipelines, new international markets, etc.)

Leads the Product Safety team to proactively research standards and prepare for new product classifications or ideas

Engages leadership and Gap Inc. legal partners regarding safety or compliance issues. Provides information gathering as needed

Partners closely with Gap Inc.'s global supply chain partners to resolve escalated safety issues, evaluate root causes and approve corrective actions

May occasionally participate in seasonal line reviews

Leverages, where required, external expertise that can provide product testing, design evaluation and risk assessment services to fulfill department requirements for all product categories.

Partners with Product Regulations to ensure that standards and manuals are up to date. Oversees publication of technical bulletins and other product safety guidelines and publications.

Manages the collection, investigation and tracking of all safety consumer complaints, identifies trends that require escalation

Oversees the development, updating and deployment of all Product Safety training events and materials.

Recognized as a technical expert in related field




Proven expertise in product safety (CPSC, FDA, Health Canada, JPMA, etc.) in terms of current regulations and commercial interpretation.

Proven ability to evaluate complex, diverse factors and resolve problems.

Experience must include high attention to detail, excellent verbal/written communications skills, creative problem solving skills and strong influencing skills.

Demonstrated technical experience in textile/retail industries

Demonstrated business acumen to determine and drive long term compliance strategy for Gap Inc.

High level proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other MS office applications.

5+ years working in a retail, textile or consumer products environment which includes working with government agencies and product related regulations. Experience must include 3-5 years of management experience, supervising others.

Bachelor's degree in textiles, engineering or business administration. Masters Degree preferred.
