GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Operations Advanced Analytics team is chartered with performing and building out world class advanced analytics to drive profitable sales growth, Inventory optimization, Supply Chain and operations optimization and driving execution of the right balance of flexibility, cost, & speed in the product to market process.

The Lead of Product Operations Advanced Analytics is responsible delivering advanced analytics for Gap Inc's product operating model which spans from concept to customer inclusive of key areas such as assortment, buying, sizing, packing, routing and last mile, capacity planning, forecasting, pricing, inventory optimization and reordering.

This role will work with brand leaders in key functions like heads of merchandising and inventory management to ensure that advanced analytics needs are strategically prioritized and that the advanced analytics themselves are utilized to their fullest. This will require strong partnership building with these leaders as well as brand engagement leaders in the product operations team.

A key part of this role will build out processes for analytical intake & governance, the research process and the sustained delivery process to ensure team is focused on the highest value work and delivering in the most efficient manner possible. The leader is a key partner with product management and technical teams to ensure the data and tools needed for this team to deliver are built.

This leader leads team focused on responsive capabilities and the measurement and return of demand based buying, vim and testing among others, network optimization for retail and online fulfillment (capacity and demand planning coupled with inventory optimization), supply chain metrics and executive reporting to drive quality, cost and service end to end and inventory optimization (price optimization , allocation, replenishment and planning) To develop these analytics this role will utilize their global team comprised of 20 plus data scientists and staff with advanced analytic capability. To scale analytics delivery the role will need to set the right partnership model with Product Management and Gaptech engineering teams to support efficient delivery of supportable, maintainable analytics.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for building & maintaining strong partnerships with brand heads of merchandising, inventory management, inventory strategy and product operations leaders

Develop strong partnerships with engineering teams to ensure efficient engineering can be accomplished

Develop strong partnerships with product management to both understand analytical needs and to properly build out engineered analytical assets

Source and create partnerships with key analytical vendors who can provide specialized expertise

Build and develop analytical talent in team management and analytical best practices

Develop and execute talent strategies that ensure sustained analytical capabilities

Prioritizing analytic research pushing highest value to forefront of the teams workload

Develop and lead analytical intake & governance process that strategically prioritizes analytics needs

Develop and ensure strict adherence to stage gate research process to ensure teams are focused on highest value work

Partner with Product Management & Gaptech to build out the right processes that yield sustained delivery of analytics through engineered assets

Monitor and vet the analytical research & development approach

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Advanced subject matter expertise in retail industry, analytical and statistical systems

Highly skilled in problem solving and managing priorities

Strong conceptual and creative problem-solving skills; ability to work with considerable ambiguity; ability to learn new and complex concepts quickly

Exceptional quantitative analytical skills

Proven experience in selecting and employing analytical methods to test hypotheses and develop insights

Strong knowledge of complex analytical techniques including predictive modeling, optimization techniques, classification algorithms, decision trees, Bayesian networks, factor analysis, cluster analysis, data mining,

Strong knowledge of SQL and one or more of the following SAS, R, Matlab, S+, Stata

Proven ability to work with large data sets

Exceptional attention to detail; ensures deliverables are of high quality

Ability to build strong, collaborative working relationships with broad cross section of business partners

Strong oral and written presentation skills

MS in statistics, operations research/management science, applied mathematics, computer science or related field; Phd strongly preferred.

15+ years of experience in operations research and/ or analytical role with operations and inventory modeling.

Demonstrated ability to think globally/strategically and frame new and complex issues

Strong critical thinking and business curiosity, including exceptional analytical and creative problem solving skills, strong ability to work with complex and detailed data to drive insights and decisions

Solid interpersonal skills with proven ability to develop and maintain effective business partner relationships
