Manager Product development - Innovation GENERAL SUMMARY: The role of a product developer – Innovations is to work as part of the COE and help commercialize the innovative fabrics, technologies and applications along with the team of SMEs. He/She will be responsible for understating the product; identifying appropriate vendor partner and work with them to ensure all garment construction techniques and applications are feasible on the new fabric/technology. Also work with the team to suggest and commercialize any new applications, techniques, machinery and constructions which create a key competitive differentiator for the brand. Actively seek newness in ways of working to enhance effectiveness of product development in innovation organization. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: In depth knowledge of garment manufacturing techniques and machinery In depth knowledge of garment construction and applications Extremely knowledgeable in risk assessment and finding solutions to commercialize newness High understanding of the sewing machinery and connect with suppliers Understands the industry and has a good network with machinery supplier, vendors, technology providers and trims/accessory manufacturers Curious mindset and actively looking for newness to create competitive differentiation for our products In depth knowledge on SMVs and garment costing breakdown Monitoring, review and evaluate vendor performance to identify innovation and co-creation partners Manage wear-test samples and tailoring samples for innovation related projects Ensure all due diligence is done prior to any bulk handoff. Work with Technical, QA and Mill management team to ensure a proper handoff from development to bulk. To partner with category team in problem solving, information sharing and counter sourcing to support best placement plan Resolve issues within a timely manner while working to continuously improve and create internal and external processes and procedures ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS: Internal: VD and PD team, MMT, COE External : Vendors, Mills, technology providers, trim & accessory suppliers QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: Degree in garment Industiral Engineering or related discipline 7-8 Years / 5-6 years' experience in Product development/sample room Production exposure Experience in sample development and with offshore production exposure is preferable Good written & spoken English Working experience in sizable garment buying office or trading company A team player with good interpersonal and communication skills Ability to manage, motivate and develop others Strong planning and negotiation skills including the ability to influence at all levels Strong problem solving and analytical skills Excellent communication and presentation skills Proficient in MS Office Suit Interested in this role or in joining another part of the Gap Inc.
