Power of She

A critical member of Athleta's brand marketing senior leadership team, the Editorial Director will help lead Athleta's annual and seasonal content strategy + editorial direction and execution. He or she will also oversee, help develop and grow Athleta's editorial team which is responsible for editorial development across major brand touchpoints and vehicles including catalog, packaging, online, email, retail marketing, etc.


  • Leading, mentoring and building a world class editorial team (including how to more optimally integrate and work effectively with cross functional teams)
  • Developing the vision and strategy for Athleta's longer term content strategy and building an effective roadmap to get there; may include thinking innovatively about how we could build an ecosystem of content development partners
  • Overseeing the annual and seasonal editorial/content strategy and execution across all major brand touch points/vehicles
  • Writing omni channel copy for alternating seasons (shared with Copy Chief) – including concepting, creative collaboration, writing all editorial, presenting and performing all rounds of edits
  • Briefing editorial team + contractors (if relevant) with effective briefs that give strong direction and set team up for success
  • Partnering closely with Athleta's Creative Director, creative team and Seasonal Brand Marketing Strategy Lead to bring seasonal brand and product stories to life across vehicles
  • Partnering closely with creative agencies on copy development/reviewing internal adaptation of copy
  • Present editorial/content strategy to executives for sign off throughout the season
  • Review and approve all editorial copy to ensure it's on brand, on brief and on time
  • Partnering closely with Head of Traffic on planning an assigning editorial projects




  • 10+ years editorial / content development experience with fashion/apparel, consumer brand, editorial team and/or marketing agency
  • Excellent annual and seasonal editorial strategy and marketing communications development and execution experience and skills with proven track record of driving strong business results
  • Ability to translate brand, product, trend and merchandising information/strategies into marketable, commercially powerful editorial stories
  • Desire to build a brand and aptitude for original, creative ideas; open-minded to new approaches
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills and ability to form effective partnerships across cross-functional teams – design, merchandising, inventory management, strategy, finance, marketing, creative, agency
  • Extremely flexible, detail-oriented, organized and self-motivated with leadership skills
  • High comfort level with and ability to powerfully present / garner buy in from senior leadership team members
  • Experience with and passion for creative development and effectively briefing in and working with creative teams
  • Strong verbal, written communications and presentation skills
  • Strong project management skills, including demonstrated track record in managing complex projects
  • Comfortable with operating in a fast-paced environment and dealing with ambiguity
  • Flexibility to manage competing priorities and shift focus as determined by changing needs of the business
  • Knowledge of the Sports/Fitness/Outdoor industry, athletic experience or interest a plus
  • BA required
