Job description:

The Courier-Journal in Louisville, KY is looking for a full-time Press Operations Supervisor to assign and supervised work of all press operations employees. You must be able to handle moderate personnel and administrative functions. In addition to supervising, leading and coaching, maintaining equipments, good communication and coordinating operations schedules/problems, lead a team to produce the best possible product under strict deadlines. This candidate must be a strong leader, professional, courteous and timely in every interaction.

The scope of the position can include, but not limited to managing policies and procedures, processes, equipment, and production etc. for newsprint, plate and press, and occasional packaging department. Must be able to make effective decisions for the welfare of the company and customers while maintaining a safe work environment.


  • Team building and coaching
  • Supervising task and delegating assignments. Must be able to troubleshoot operational problems and determine preventive maintenance solutions to avoid downtime.
  • Maintain production and employee records.
  • Maintain supply and consumables inventory.
  • Ensure that production requirements are met.
  • Effectively communicates using typed, written ad verbal.
  • Must be able to understand press imposition.


HS diploma, Experience and training in a newspaper press room, Mechanically inclined and full understanding of the printing process. Leadership workshops.


Minimum of 5 years on the job training in newspaper press room or comparable facility.

Experience in a lead or supervisory position with strong leadership skills. Must understand OSHA guidelines/regulations and able to maintain a sage work environment.


Must be familiar with all processes, equipment and procedures required to print daily newspaper within the scope of the production operations. Knowledge of internal and external customer service.


Must have offset press knowledge – preferably web offset printing. Well organized, able to motivate, strong leader and coach, managing upwards of 50 people. Team building, computer experience and good communication skills.

Specific Abilities:

Be aware of deadlines and able to instill that awareness in others. Ability to coach and lead employees to meet and exceed production standard/goals in a deadline driven environment. Must be flexible to work s days, afternoons or nights.
