Escambia County Local Impact Reporter

The Pensacola News Journal is looking for an aggressive, experienced journalist to join our team as the Escambia County Local Impact Reporter. The ideal candidate is able to work independently to identify the stories that matter to readers and to stay ahead of the decisions that impact their lives.

The reporter must be able to quickly build a deep understanding of the quality of life issues facing Escambia residents as it relates to decisions, projects, and efforts made in city and county government and be able to bring those issues to the public’s attention before decisions are made. If you base your stories by following government meeting agendas, this job is not for you.

Our candidate must be able to:

  • Provide thoughtful analysis of complex issues,
  • Produce watchdog journalism that leads to changes,
  • Contribute to the community’s greater good through impactful journalism. Focus on finding new ways to engage readers through social media, video, and mobile and tablet platforms.
  • Because of night meeting coverage, and the unpredictability of breaking news, the reporter must be flexible in scheduling.

Qualified candidates have a minimum of three years of reporting experiencing and a bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field.

Please apply online and send your resume, cover letter and clips to Executive editor Lisa Nellessen-Lara at [email protected]
