The high-level editor acts as one of the primary external voices to connect the public with the news organization through outreach, editorials and editorial board management. Plans and executes engagement opportunities to maximize community impact and story resonance in print, digital, community event and social-media settings. Oversees content that highlights discussions and debates on important community issues. Role includes responsibility for editorial content/op-ed pages. Should possess expertise in social media, marketing and events planning. Connects content with creative ways to generate community interaction both virtually and through events. May directly supervise the work of an engagement editor I, community content editor and/or producers.
They will contribute to the award winning Packers coverage of “Clubhouse Live”, a weekly USA TODAY NETWORK – Wisconsin fan show.
Plans and executes engagement opportunities based on metrics to build value for key audiences. Works closely with all staff members to create these engagements, which will range from small, every-day happenings to large annual events.
Serves as one of the primary public-facing representatives of the news organization; acts as the primary liaison to outside marketing groups. Organizes promotions and serves as the leading source of marketing ideas from the newsroom, coaching fellow journalists on ways to more effectively market themselves, their work and the overall brand of the local news organization.
Responsible for writing thorough and fact-based public stances on behalf of the organization, including editorials. May lead a reader panel or editorial board, regularly soliciting opinion.
Collaborates with local advertising and marketing staff to ensure maximum audience and revenue returns from events.
Understands the makeup of fan bases and strives to make the community a better place by identifying important problems and driving solutions with newsroom resources. Places the newsroom at the center of important debates and discussions in the community.
Responsible for the organization’s public stances, including through editorials.
Collaborates to design individualized and team engagement plans.
Coaches’ fellow journalists to more effectively interact with the public.
Provides great customer service, helping readers find answers and solutions.
Qualifications and Competencies Needed:
Advanced knowledge of social media and customer feedback tools, including how to respond andengage customers on digital platforms in the public space.
Deep understanding of and curiosity about competition for our customers’ time and money.
Experience with planning events from conception to execution.
Knowledge of current events.
Exceptional planning and organizational skills.
Self-motivation and self-direction.
Effective written and verbal communicator; able to get along with many kinds of personalities.
Able to multi-task and excel under intense deadline pressure in a rapidly changing environment.
Knows how to use time efficiently in a 24-hour news environment.
Works collaboratively within a cross-functional environment.
Must embrace peer-to-peer training, as a teacher and as a student.
Applies innovative, creative thinking to support the company’s goals.
