Community Content Writing/Editing Specialist - Part-Time

Community Content Specialist – The Reporter and Action Publications (part-time 25 hours a week)

The Community Content Specialist for The Reporter and Action Publications, based in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, is the liaison between the community members and the pages of The Reporter, Action Sunday, Action Sunday West and Action Advertiser. This job for USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin chiefly entails processing and editing submitted material to convert it to the standard of quality that readers expect. It also will include the writing of at least one feature story per week. It’s a part-time role that’s perfect for someone looking to someday become a full-time reporter or editor for USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin.

Duties include:

Re-writing, editing and processing approximately 75 press releases per week

Writing one feature story per week minimum; more if time allows

Maintenance of event calendars for Action Publications

Using both Presto and Newsgate software

Communicating with producers and designers via email and messenger, as well as editor and on-site staff members to avoid duplication of work

Other duties and special projects, as assigned

Assisting with other content preparation for both The Reporter and the Oshkosh Northwestern, if needed

Candidate must have:

A firm grasp of AP style and the ability to learn the news organizations’ style

Ability to write clearly and cleanly and to do effective research on a variety of general-interest topics

Ability to type cleanly and quickly, as well as find and correct errors in existing text

Ability to function under daily deadlines to produce daily and weekly publications

Customer service skills to communicate with the public

Comfort with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.), willingness and ability to learn news-related software as needed
