Bilingual Reporter - Asbury Park Press
The Asbury Park Press, a member of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking an experienced reporter with Spanish-speaking language skills to cover immigration issues in New Jersey. This is a job where you can stretch as a writer and reporter, learn cutting-edge video skills and break new ground in a beat that will become markedly important as Donald Trump assumes the presidency. You may also be called on to work with USA Today on national projects involving Trump and immigration. Many of our top stories run on USA Today and the full network.
Part of the job entails covering western Monmouth County communities, which have a high percentage of immigrants, and an occasional (about every six to eight weeks) breaking news or weekend shift. The successful candidate will have: the proven ability to write cleanly and accurately with an engaging style; the ability to work well under pressure, and; multimedia skills that include basic iPhone video editing, SEO optimization and networking within the community.
Required: Fluent enough in Spanish to conduct an interview and accurately translate into English; one-year professional experience at a major media outlet.
