Assistant Editor - USA TODAY Money

USA TODAY’s Money section seeks an Assistant Money Editor to help oversee breaking and enterprise coverage at the flagship news organization of the USA TODAY NETWORK.

This New York-based position offers a unique opportunity to help steer business and financial coverage across areas such as markets, banking, economy, retailing and consumer, personal finance, workplace, autos, health care, and technology.

This news leader will help assign and edit the most important stories of the day in a fast-paced digital environment and plan longer-term enterprise stories to produce compelling social media, videos, interactives, data visualizations and more. It all happens on multiple platforms – digital, print, video, Facebook, Facebook Live, Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat and Twitter.

The successful candidate will be eager and ready to represent USA TODAY on national television periodically.

The ideal candidate is a nimble journalist with a track record of strong news judgment. You should be able to go from doing a Facebook Live to editing an enterprise feature to jumping on a big breaking story. You must be comfortable with income statements and balance sheets and have the ability to coach reporters on a wide range of business and financial stories. The ability to edit and publish clean, accurate copy is vital.

You should be available to fill in occasionally on weekends and holidays and some travel to our headquarters in McLean, Virginia and other job sites may be required.

You shouldn’t be camera shy. The successful candidate will be eager and ready to represent USA TODAY on national television and on panels and other events.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience working for a national news organization as a business and financial journalist – at least one of those as an editor. Experience with video and social media is preferred. Wire service experience is a plus, as is prior experience covering financial markets.
