Principal Back-End Software Engineer

We are seeking a Principal Back-end Software Engineer to oversee the development of our API and Content Management System (CMS) for Fullscreen’s Subscription Video On Demand (SVOD) solution. Your primary focus will be to architect and develop a scalable API, design and maintain the underlying data model, and ensure high availability and resiliency. You'll be responsible for delivering high quality, maintainable code into production, implementing improvements as well as large feature enhancements and architectural advancements. This position reports directly to the SVP of Engineering and works closely with the Product, Design, Project Management, Site Reliability, Web Engineering, and Mobile Engineering teams. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Architect, develop, and maintain server side APIs as well as our CMS that powers our SVOD mobile and web applications
  • Lead, support, and mentor other members of your engineering team
  • Maintain and create new integrations with 3rd Party partners (e.g. payment processor)
  • Optimize code for speed and scalability; Perform load testing and tuning
  • Drive adherence to coding standards, and drive and participate in code review process
  • Troubleshoot complex issues and provide root cause analysis
  • Work cross-functionally with Product Management and other teams to ensure successful execution of projects/products
  • Manage resources and resource conflicts as necessary to ensure work stream success
  • Maintain backend services on a 24/7 basis

REQUIREMENTS

  • B.S. or higher in Computer Science or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • 10+ years software engineering experience
  • Solid experience with object oriented design, debugging multi-threaded apps, and development of large complex systems
  • Understanding of fundamental design principles behind a scalable application 
  • Long history of building APIs on top of SQL and other data stores
  • Experience with memcached and/or Redis
  • Rapid learner who thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrable experience building consumer web and mobile applications
  • Ability to implement automated testing platforms and unit tests
  • Sound judgment for balancing between idealism and pragmatism
  • Experience with code versioning tools, preferably Github
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment
  • Desired: Expert with Ruby on Rails, along with common GEMs and frameworks
