What You'll Do

In this role, you will work within the Legal, Privacy, and Compliance team to lead the development and administration of Flatiron Health’s compliance program. Dynamic leadership of the compliance program is essential to ensure that Flatiron Health meets the legal and ethical requirements of the Office of the Inspector General/HHS and the Department of Justice; regulations under HIPAA, the FCA, HITECH, and other statutes; our contractual obligations to our corporate partners; and our internal Code of Conduct. In sum, the role will function as a director in the professional discipline of compliance, tasked with keeping the Flatiron Health Compliance Committee aligned with its strategic guidelines; maintaining policy and procedure repositories for assessing and managing risk; and working cross-functionally to help ensure security and compliance across the organization, its contractors, and its vendors.   • Manage the day-to-day operation of Flatiron Health’s compliance program, including policy development, operations monitoring, incident investigation, and remediation of violations.
  • Establish effective working relationships and build credibility within the organization to support a proactive culture of compliance and business ethics.
  • Partner with internal teams including Security, Privacy, Quality, and IT, and with external consultants, auditors, and government agencies.
  • Collaborate on compliance activities with Flatiron Health’s business teams, which develop technology, products, and services to enhance oncology research and support oncology care providers.  
  • Develop and maintain compliance training for employees.
  • Champion an optimal program through the smooth integration of compliance practices with business operations.
  • Assist in ongoing development of compliance program performance, taking appropriate strategic actions to innovate improvements, analyze trends, and facilitate organizational assimilation of lessons learned.
  • Proactively acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current federal and state laws and regulations in the areas of healthcare compliance, including anti-fraud programs, finance best practices, and privacy and security requirements.
  • Help develop and execute third-party compliance planning.

Inherent in the role of Director of Compliance is the opportunity to interface across cross-functional teams at Flatiron and to drive top-down engagement in the compliance program at all levels. This role will also foster strong connections between Privacy and Compliance, ensuring continuity of policies and synergy of the functions. 

Who You Are

You are a resourceful and flexible subject-matter expert in the field of compliance, with experience in program leadership and the navigation of risk management and governance within healthcare, pharmaceuticals, or life sciences, using varied (e.g. mobile, cloud, proprietary) technology. You have demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and improving compliance programs, including associated training. You have working knowledge of the required laws and/or resources pertaining to HIPAA security and privacy, Medicare/Medicaid administration, fraud prevention, disaster recovery, security policies, and business continuity. You have the ability to understand, work with and organize data from various systems: facts, figures, narratives, and data analysis. You are self-confident and able to work independently with senior management. You are a team player who is resilient, with a positive outlook and a strong desire to work collaboratively with other professionals in risk, privacy, legal,and operations.

You are/you have:

  • 8-10 years’ experience in healthcare, pharmaceutical, or life sciences compliance required. Prior management experience strongly preferred, especially the management of cross-functional teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in pertinent field strongly preferred. 
  • Strong familiarity with healthcare fraud, waste, and abuse laws; HIPAA, HITECH, FCA, FCPA, and similar laws and regulations; and the general legal framework essential to corporate compliance efforts.
  • Successful track record implementing, managing, and administering relevant compliance program mechanics, including monitoring, audits, hotline response, incident investigations, and accountability decision-making.
  • Approachable, discreet, and adaptive to change and organizational growth.
  • A history of working cooperatively and supportively with business delivery and development teams to support compliance without disrupting operational priorities.
  • A capable influencer in encouraging business lines toward compliance through smooth integration into a centralized compliance function and without disrupting operational efficiencies.
  • An adept communicator who relates to all levels of the organization and its internal/external stakeholders.
  • An excellent listener with capacity to cull information from multiple sources and distill into a fact base.
  • Sterling ethics and ethical courage.
  • Collaborative, fact-based approach to issue resolution
  • Healthcare compliance and/or privacy certifications strongly preferred (e.g., CHC, CHPC, CCEP)
