Fall Photo Editing Intern, The Intercept

The Company:

The Intercept, launched in 2014 to provide an outlet for fearless, adversarial journalism, produces award-winning investigative reporting, analysis, and multimedia content focused on national security, politics, civil liberties, the environment, technology, criminal justice, media, and more. Regular contributors include co-founding editors Glenn Greenwald and Jeremy Scahill.

The Position:

The Intercept is looking for a talented, motivated photo editing intern to help with photo editing and other visual responsibilities. The internship will involve photo research, story art and layout, portfolio research, organizing contracts and documents, brainstorming concepts and ideas for visual storytelling, and collaborating with designers, editors, writers, and the social media team. While the intern may be asked to take photos, this is a photo editor position and not a photographer position. The intern will work on a variety of projects depending on the publishing schedule and the stories assigned.

Background & Qualifications:
  • Current student or recent graduate (3 years or less since graduation)
  • Fluent in Photoshop
  • Knowledge of WordPress
  • A strong visual aesthetic
  • Passion for news and current events
  • Enjoys reading and digging deep into complex stories to understand nuances
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects within a tight deadline
Hours:

The internship is five days a week, $15/hour for 12 weeks beginning in September 2017

In your cover letter, please indicate whether you are a current student or recent grad; and if a recent grad, the year that you graduated.
