Test and Reliability Engineer - Network Hardware

This position of Test and Reliability Engineer - Network Hardware will be designing and developing tests to validate mission critical aspects of system and board design. This is an operationally challenging role that will afford the opportunity to lead the way Facebook tests and sustains hardware infrastructure at scale. Candidates in this role must have strong hardware skills, a good understanding of hardware systems and are passionate about building and growing an industry leading organization that consistently delivers world-class infrastructure.

  • Design and develop hardware performance characterization tests to evaluate and expose design limitations in networking hardware
  • Verification and validation testing for hardware systems focusing on switches, routers
  • Review hardware design and datasheets for testing requirements, in collaboration with HW design teams to develop hardware tests
  • Support production systems with failure diagnostics, reduction of intermittent failures and downtime
  • Review test configurations and automation practices, hardware designs and RMA issues internally, with partner teams and ODMs
  • Analyze test data and documentation and provide recommendations to improve test coverage in design, validation and production phases
  • Collaborate with the network hardware engineering team (networking, optics and electrical engineers), data center networking, and software teams across Facebook to understand and convert failures into test cases/suites, switch-to-switch up to network-scale
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, or similar field
  • 7+ years of work experience in hardware/firmware testing and diagnostics methodologies
  • 5+ years experience in network hardware validation, and characterization
  • 3+ years experience of programming or automation scripting
  • Experience in networking hardware design and testing
  • Experience in functional testing of board level interfaces including I2C/MDIO/PCIe
  • Experience in performance characterization of high speed serial links
  • Experience working with networking merchant silicon suppliers, optical components and hardware design
  • Experience in testing embedded driver testing
  • Experience in monitoring, logging, debugging and root-causing failures in hardware and networking systems, in hyperscale environments
