Research Program Manager, Contractors & Vendors

Research Program Managers implement global operational systems, connect teams and knowledge, and problem solve operational hurdles to enable Researchers to do their most impactful work. This particular Research Program Manager role will manage and build out our Research contractor and third-party vendor programs. You'll work closely with Researchers to ensure projects run smoothly, the right collaborations are happening, and highest quality work is being conducted. You'll own and evolve the contractor management program, working closely with Research Managers to identify team contractor needs and source, vet, and place contractors on the team. You'll also own and build the research team's third-party vendor program, creating processes for tracking vendor information and building relationships with top research vendors. The ideal candidate is able to facilitate our teams' best work by managing short- and long-term projects and initiatives, anticipating project issues and resolving them, connecting resources to research needs, and removing barriers to doing great work. You'll also maintain and refine established research processes as needed. The Research Program Manager is an expert in problem solving and multitasking, while building long-term relationships with the team. You'll utilize a full range of organizational and interpersonal skills that help our talented teams operate at their highest and most effective level.

This role requires project management experience and broad knowledge of research's impact on product design and development. Excellent communication skills, ability to manage complex logistics and a highly organized approach are mandatory. This is a full-time position based in our Menlo Park office.

Responsibilities

  • Program Management and Collaboration
  • Operation lead for vendor and contractor management, owning, managing, and growing the vendor and contractor programs for the UX research team
  • Creates, maintains, and refines programs and initiatives, establishing operational systems, best practices, and outcomes
  • Predicts roadblocks and obstacles, establishing solutions to overcome challenges
  • Prioritizes competing needs with reasoning and solutions
  • Moves initiatives forward, finds resources, raises concerns to appropriate owners early and resolves open issues that prevent progress
  • Holds the line when progress is in jeopardy while maintaining relationships
  • Collaborates on other research team programs and initiatives where appropriate
  • Contributes to other program processes and tools, updating databases and initiating improvements where needed
  • Contractor Management
  • Works closely with Research Managers to identify teams' contractor needs and forecast future needs while proactively sourcing, vetting, and building relationships with contractors
  • Identify guidelines for rates and manage negotiations with contractors if needed
  • Onboards, places, and tracks contractors with teams that best fit their skillset and teams' needs
  • Tracks all relevant information for contractors, including contract dates and feedback
  • Identifies opportunities, problem solves challenges, and creates efficiencies
  • Manages and develops relationships with staffing agency contacts
  • Vendor Management
  • Sources and vets new third-party vendors based on research team needs
  • Works with third-party research vendors to get quotes, establish them as vendors, and follow up post-project to get feedback and ensure future quality
  • Owns relationship with top vendors, both domestic and internationally, to provide and give feedback based on researchers' experiences
  • Collects and disseminates regular synthesis reports from top international vendors
  • Creates onboarding program for new vendors to ensure they align with Facebook research standards and requirements
  • Identifies and implements a software tool for tracking all vendor information
  • Communicates regularly to ensure the research team is aware of new vendors

Minimum Qualifications

  • Communication and organization skills, with the ability to multi-task and juggle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Track record of operating independently, being detail-oriented, and delivering results in an organized manner
  • 4+ years of relevant or related Program or Project Management experience
  • 2+ years vendor partnerships, contractor management experience, or in-house agency experience
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 15%
